This is the game Jeong Jeong plays when the restraints are gone: he raises and raises his body-heat and firebending until his skin bursts into flame. For one searing instant, he feels the pain of fire, and it is sweet and deathly beautiful.

Then he pushes it away from his skin, pushes it out in an aura to envelope him. He feeds and feeds and feeds it until it begins to slip his control.

So many years of fearing and loathing the violence of fire did more than make him miserable, he realizes. It also taught him still greater control.

He holds a forest fire in his power, and he laughs.
