Give me an AU prompt, and I'll write you something of at least a hundred words. All AUs I've done before, except LaS, Assimilation, Flint, and DotM, can be requested. I might deny some prompts if they involve something plot-centric to the last part of "Bedrock ( Read more... )

Bonus: Drow AU: Iroh/Zolena beckyh2112 April 23 2010, 16:40:33 UTC
Dawn found Iroh already awake, brewing tea for his wife. The winter had been hard, harder on her than any previous winter. She coughed all the time now, and she seemed so weak and frail.

He didn't entirely know what to make of it. So he made tea brimming with honey and cream.

"Zolena," he said softly as he helped her sit up to take the tea. Her hair was as white as his now, and he wasn't sure when in the last three decades that change had taken place. First had been a few strands here and there, then streaks, then all of her dark hair was gone entirely.

Her skin seemed delicate, frail, pulled tight over her bones so her hands looked like moths. But she still smiled, though, and smiled at him.

"Iroh," she murmured after taking a long drink of tea. "Where's Lu Ten? I want to see my son before I die."

"Die?" He asked in confusion, brows knitting together. "You're not going to die. I won't let anyone kill you."

Zolena laughed, but her laughter transformed into a coughing fit that wracked her body. "Such a drow," she said when she could speak again. "Even after all these years on the surface, you still think murder's the only way people die."

He wrapped his arms around her and held her, nosing at her hair gently.

"I'm human," Zolena said gently, pressing her lips against his throat. "Humans don't live as long as elves."

Oih. Sniff. This is truly beautiful. I love the way Iroh is confused at her aging and the fact there are other ways to die than by murder...

This 'verse always hurts me a bit (a lot) because I would love to see Zuko to get friendship and stand as an equal, but I've already partly accepted that it won't happen.

Lu Ten is a half-elf? (is that the right term? I don't know what it is in English...) Way too cool.

Iroh really is a drow at heart, even if he's settled in quite happily on the surface. Cultural upbringing says the only way people die is if you kill them (drow don't seem to die of old age very much).

... So it would be very mean of me to say that after some discussion/squee with Spyri, I figured out a way for Zuko to actually get out and have a chance of being a good guy, wouldn't it? /is mean //may work towards that as part of drow AU requests, but it'll be a while

Yeah, Lu Ten is a half-elf (of the drow variety). He may actually show up on stage sometime, too. ^_^

Squee! I love you!

This is a big deal for me because, well, I always like that the stories have a bit hopeful ending. Not happy in a way of sappy, but hopeful. Also the fact that I honestly can imagine of living a life without a great romance but a life without friendship? ...Yeah, that thought breaks me. I have lived some years without any friends and it was awful. Luckily those were at elementary school, but still... The saying I feel most important to me truly is: "Friendship is a golden gift cherished above all life's other treasures." So...

This bonus was for me? *flails and gets to commenting*

I like how tea is still slipped in to this; a cure for all ills and the heaping of cream and honey. Delicious tea will solve the problems.

What I adore most though? How Iroh doesn't seem to care she ages, she is still lovely and beautiful and wonderful and he still adores her. Wonderful how you capture the beauty and tragedy of elf/human relationships in this.

Poor Iroh. It's heart-breaking, how he doesn't really understand what is happening to his wife.
