Zuko and Iroh, relaxing with tea on a rainy day beckyh2112 February 28 2010, 03:54:17 UTC
Rain hammered down on the shutters of the apartment. It leaked through a broken slat, and where the right shutter didn't quite go all the way down the length of the window.

Iroh supposed he could hire an earthbender to adjust the window or a carpenter to make a new shutter. Instead, he simply tucked a kettle underneath the window and let it collect water.

A warm, steady glow from the lamps filled the apartment, the fire-presence nestling comfortable around his old heart. Less comfortably nestled, Zuko's presence came in fits and bursts as he darted between the main room and the bedroom, antsy and furious at being trapped inside during the thunderstorm.

Sometimes, though, Zuko's behavior reminded Iroh of his brother. He could not put his finger on why. Ozai had never been prone to great displays of movement during thunderstorms. Too often, he'd find a window to sit by and watch the storm, drenching himself so he could focus on the lightning.

But that had been years and years ago, before his brother had mastered lightningbending.

Zuko paused momentarily, and lightning crashed. His nephew resumed his pacing as if he had never hesitated.

"Would you like some tea, nephew?" Iroh said as he walked over to the stone stovetop. "I found ginseng in the market."

*purrs*

I very much like this. Zuko's pacing and pausing with the lightning -- he's picking it up, isn't he?

And mmm, nestling on a rainy day for the WIN.

He's picking it up. ^_^ I'm visualizing this piece as being in the same universe as "Spark" from Urzai Week, randomly.

Nestling on a rainy day is the BEST. <3
