Turtleduck jammiesbeckyh2112February 14 2010, 22:19:43 UTC
Mai wears an embroidered black silk tunic and pants to bed. Gold frogs hold her tunic closed, and the black silk clings to her legs. There are hints of weapons-sheathes underneath the silk, and Zuko wonders how she can sleep with them on.
He doesn't ask, though, because Mai wouldn't answer. He just traces his fingers over the embroidered designs of crested turtleducks, listening to the soft change of her breathing as he presses silk over her breasts. The embroidered turtleducks are all breeds he recognizes from the traditional red-crested ones the Fire shrines loved so much to the deep green crests of the wild males.
His fingers trace down blue ripples of embroidered water, and Mai's lips curve upward. He smiles and kisses one of the turtleducks that looks just like the breed they keep in the pond.

Mother played the koto, Uncle Iroh favored the tsungi horn, Cousin Lu Ten could do wicked things with a drum, and Father looked vaguely annoyed. Then Mother would ask him to sing for her, and Father would smile at her as if she was the most beautiful person in the world

I absolutely adored this! I really do love the idea of Zuko bonding with the rest of the crew (and JEE!) eventually, as I think I've mentioned before. I also always liked the idea of Zuko actually kind of being able to play an instrument. I liked this explanation for why Zuko didn't really join in on music night - he wasn't competent with the tsungi horn... Which makes that "For the last time, uncle, I'm not going to play the tsungi horn!" line make a lot of sense. :)
In any case, this drabble makes me all the more excited for Jeeko week... :3

Thank you! I've been enjoying fiddling with Zuko's issues with both music and his crew during this meme. Iroh has struck me as the type who would encourage Zuko to participate and bond to the point of surly!teenager!Zuko being highly annoyed. *pets Zu*

I just arrived from my grandparents place and have spent enormour amount of time trying to figure out how to clean my e-mail. Then I found out your comment weirdlet's review and I went bit (bugshit) crazy trying to find the original email...report? about this story. I was worried if my email would have...lost it and how many stories I have missed then? And then I found it. In my bloody first page. I am such a brilliant person.

I love this. I love the snippets of different times, the way you handle Ozai...you know, it's you who has turned me to like Ozai (well, like is maybe not the right word, but...) and the one whose opinion of my characterization of Ozai in my bigbang fic and the whole fic in general matters me the most. I found myself going: "What would beckyh2112 think about this? Puts the standards a bit too high...
