Mai, readying for battle beckyh2112 January 13 2010, 03:13:43 UTC
The skies of that world were clouded, though Mai couldn't say for certain that it wasn't smoke darkening the skies. The world seemed empty of life, save for the four of them, empty and broken. Walls stood in tatters if they stood at all, and vast holes gaped in the ground to reveal levels of city going on forever below. A great chasm was off to their right.

Everywhere, there were bodies. Bodies with tails, bodies without. Heads punched clean through by energy, fragments of bone and spatters of blood, carnage.

Teo hovered close by her side, eyes darting all around. Jet strode through confidently, loudly stating how his power could handle any Saiyans they might find. While Mai agreed that she and him together could more than handle any trouble that might rear its head, she did wish he would shut up.

Bato brought up the rear, quiet and watchful.

"Where is everyone?" Jet demanded. "Are they all dead? What's the point of sending us here to train if there's no one to fight?"

"Mister Popo has his reasons," Bato said calmly.

Teo drifted away from her side, drawn towards a broken window. Mai kept half an eye on him, but most of her attention went to Jet. Hakoda and Ursa might trust him, but she most certainly did not.

Of course, she thought wryly, she did meet Hakoda while trying to kill him. Actually, she was certain how he'd met most of his friends.

Teo screamed.

Mai's heart leapt in her throat as she whirled- Saiyajin! A Saiyan held her Teo by the top of his head, another Saiyan watched them.

"Mai, help!"

Ki shaped into kunai formed in her hands, and she lunged forward to launch them at the Saiyans-

Too slow. The Saiyan holding Teo broke his neck. And laughed.

Mai saw red.

It wasn't enough. Bato, Jet, and she threw everything they had at the two Saiyans, and it wasn't enough.

They broke Bato's back. Then, insult of insults, they killed her and Jet with her own special attack.

Mai opened her eyes with a gasp, staring at the darkness of the Room of Spirit and Time. It had been so real-

"Those Saiyans," the old Namek in his blue and white said, "Were not even half as strong as the two who are coming to Earth."

Teo grabbed on hard to her shoulders, and Mai's arm went around his waist instinctively to keep from stumbling. Not even half as powerful? They had decimated the four of them! She was so much stronger than she had been, and they had destroyed her!

"Do you understand now what you are facing? This will not be an easy battle, and you may well die. Knowing this, will you still fight the Saiyans?"

Mai looked at the old Kami-sama, at the stylized lotus blossom on his half-cape. She looked and her grip tightened on Teo, pulling him closer. "Of course."
