I love nagas. I love nagas a lot. (Actually, I like all kinds of human-animal hybrids, as my mermaid, octomaid, selkie, drider, and scorpionman obsessions attest. HOWEVER. Today we are concentratining on nagas.)
This is an Avatar'verse AU where the Firefolk are nagas. For people who need references to what nagas are, I direct you

Azula presents her great-grandfather with a gift: a pretty Earth Kingdom doctor.
In the Northern Air Temple, the gaang is introduced to Teo - a naga, but a foundling raised away from his people. Flying snakefolk are a sight to behold.
After the war; Iroh and Ming in the Jasmine Dragon. Tea and cuddling.
Snakeman or not, Lt Jee is still a master cockbender. Or is that a cuddlebender? Jee and Haru. 'Cause it's pretty.

Azula, leave Song's hair alone!

You just need to cuddle, Song. He's a sad Naga.

Nagas have too many teeth in their smiles.
But Teo is happy. Teo is more happy than anything, and the Mechanist lives for his boy's smile. It's bright and glorious, and his laughter is more glorious still as he twists his glider in a loop-the-loop. He can fly, like no one has since the nagas destroyed the Air Nomads, like no naga ever has at all.
He can fly, and he's happy, and the Mechanist will pay any price to keep it that way for his boy.

There was a stir all through the city when the second naga came to work at the teashop. A female naga, at that, and who had ever seen such a thing! She was exotically pretty with her red tail swirled with black patterns. Though, as some men noted, her face was nothing special.
She seemed to be a mature woman of her species, though with nagas, who could tell? She certainly wasn't grey-haired like Iroh, nor was she a girl like Azula the Conqueror had been.
The addition of another naga to the teashop suddenly resulted in all sorts of strangeness. It seemed the two nagas couldn't be near each other without their tails getting tangled together. It never seemed to disturb Iroh or the lady, but the humans in the shop were always hopping over them.

Next time, don't try for the element of surprise when you think they're distracted, he promised himself. Don't even get close to their tails.
Of course, it wasn't as if he'd expected the sudden blur of motion that found him wrapped in red and black scales. Or the way the human portion of the naga hardly swayed and Fire eyes never so much glanced his way.
The naga's coils were comfortably warm, and the melody shifted to something more peaceful. Haru blinked, blinked again, then yelped and began to struggle as he realized the warmth from the naga and the tiredness of fighting all the time were combining to make him fall asleep.
Scaled coils wrapped around him all the tighter.
"Ssssssh." The notes faded to silence, and the naga's hand stroked his hair. "I'd hate to have to kill you, boy."

Have you never seen a snake strike? Poor boy.
And mmm, Jee. Do you not want to kill the pretty, or just because he's a boy? Or is it because you are playing to Nima?
