Dear Secret Santa,
I've asked for three fandoms this year, one of them with two different requests.
ps238
ps238 is available as a
free webcomic up to (a currently partial version of) issue 19 and is available in dead tree format up to issue #41. (The website lies for some reason - issues forty and forty-one are out.) I've made my requests on the assumption that the writer has read up to issue #38, but I'm perfectly happy with Tyler-centric stories that only rely on what's been shown on the web.
Official Yuletide Request #1: Ron Peterson aka Captain Clarinet. So I was a dork and forgot to enter Toby onto the character list when I nominated this fandom. So two different details-things here.
I would like to see something with Ron dealing with Toby and maybe getting the idea of how insanely powerful Toby actually is as well as the way the other boy limits himself to minimize damage. Ron's really worried about self-control and it seems like it would be interesting to see how he deals with someone more powerful and more destructive than him.
For a Ron-alone piece, I'd really like something about his relationship with his family or his relationship with Tyler or his relationship with his new life in Praetorian Academy.
Official Yuletide Request #2: Cecil Holmes, the Revenant, and Tyler Marlocke aka Moonshadow. A small adventure with the Revenant and his two sidekicks, maybe. Or a training session. Or just him and his (teacher/student) relationship to the kids and their friendship to each other in all its weird quirks.
Letter Stuff: Tyler is my favorite character, bar none. Just about anything that focuses on him would be very cool to read. I especially enjoy his friendship with Cecil, the compare/contrast to the way people treat him as Tyler and as Moonshadow, and his mentor/student relationship with the Revenant.
Anne McCaffrey - Dragonriders of Pern
The only books from the series you would need to have read for this are Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, though Dragondrums might also be helpful.
Official Yuletide Request: Menolly. I've often wondered what would have happened if Master Robinton hadn't found Menolly at Benden Weyr when he did. I expect she would have been put out to Impress the next queen egg that Ramoth or one of the other Benden queens laid.
Assuming she did, I'd like to see something Menolly-centric in this AU where she's a queen-rider on top of her nine fire lizards. Bonus points if you include Menolly/T'gellan, Menolly/Mirrim, or Menolly/T'gellan/Mirrim.
If you don't want to tackle that, I'd really appreciate just about anything with Menolly at Benden Weyr or her early days at the Harper Hall. I'd prefer a minimum of Menolly/Sebell and no Menolly/Robinton (that pairing squicks me), though I'm open to most any other pairing you feel like writing if you want to write a pairing.
Letter Stuff: ... My request about covers it, really.
Stargate: Universe
The most recent five episodes of the show are
available on Hulu for free watching.
Official Yuletide Request: Eli and Dr. Rush. The two characters getting used to working together on board the Destiny and dealing with each other's foibles and sometimes terrible social skills.
I really love both of these characters, and the way they interact with each other on the show. Dr. Rush seems to actually like and possibly want to mentor Eli, and while Eli doesn't seem as actively friendly with Dr. Rush as he is with everyone else, he does trust Rush implicitly. (Also, Rush does not really invite active friendliness.)
Letter Stuff: Also, I prefer a slant on Rush that has him having faith in the Destiny while not knowing enough to say things like "oh, we can totally fly into the sun, no problem".
I'd prefer not to linger on whatever's going on between Eli and Chloe, though I don't mind if that's brought up in the fic.
Some of my cool bits, the things that make me squee in delight if I encounter them in a story:
- sun-diving
- a sense of the numinous
- liminality
- the change of seasons
- the Seasonal Monarchs (Summer Queen, Winter King/Summer King, Winter Queen)
- power in sacrifice
- feeling the weight of years as you walk through something ancient
- waterfalls
- cooking in general, baking bread in particular
- honey
- trade
- wild places
- selkies
- veils
- thunderstorms
- broken halves making a whole
- sensuousness, characters interacting with the world around them through all of their senses
- making things by hand
