I blame reading a lot of romance blogs for that. And my various bits of research in sex-books. Safe sex, bb. Ming and Iroh are not teenagers, and they can be smart about this. <3

Boy-thoughts and fish-thoughts and spirit-thoughts. They're the demi-human grandchildren of Tui and La. Tui and La had Iluq, the Winter Koi, who was a spirit of famine and cold and winter in the Water Tribes. WT has enough of that, thanks, so he left and went a'wandering.

He found some nice springs in the Fire Nation and settled there. The Firefolk poked at the newly icy springs, saw the monstrous white koi-spirit, and built a temple there. He changed from being a Water Tribe spirit to being a Fire Nation spirit, and his name became Aizuk.

Aizuk went "ohai, sexy warm women". And then there sprang koi-boys to be the river and stream spirits of any unspirited waters of the Fire Nation.

Fresh water is quite important in the Fire Nation, so having spirits to give sacrifices to and ask for blessing/protection of the water from makes the Firefolk happy. Much less chance of fickle unpleasantness. (Debatable but probably correct in their assessment there. Since spirits are real and all in the Avatar'verse.)

Delicious world/mythos-building, omnomnomnom. And realistic pronunciation shift between languages! Aizuk is one pretty smart fish-dude. And everyone wins! -cuddles nice, cool koi-boys-

I had a lot of fun hashing this out with Spyri. Especially the name-change. Something like this, only white is how I see Aizuk in his fish-form.

AHHHHH SOCUTE HE IS MY FISHY FRIEND <3<3<3<3
I want to jump in and hug him!

Can koi-boys live in hot water? Because chillin in an onsen sounds like a pretty cool spirit-job.

They're koi. I really have no idea what kind of living conditions koi can handle.
