Running update

It's been a tough week in my running.  Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of what I'm doing, really--I'm still at 10 miles a week with my longest run at 4 miles.  But I think the newness of this level of activity is catching up to me.  I've heard that can happen when you launch into a heavy training program--you can experience a lot of soreness and aches and pains in the beginning, which will eventually go away as you get used to it.  It was a little delayed for me, as I've been at it for 6 weeks now and it's just now hitting me.

But it's been a painful week.  My calves have been perpetually sore for the last week and a half to the point where I look a little funny walking around, and while today's run was supposed to be a short "recovery" run after yesterday's longer run, I was in the most pain today with a sharpness on the inside part of my lower legs.  It was extremely tender to touch, and in a part of the leg that I cannot really stretch, so it was painful to walk or even just to stand.  I'm fairly certain that it's nothing serious, since it's pretty much gone now after resting most of the afternoon.  But I have no doubt that it'll be back the next time I run.

Still, I'm happy to report another personal record.  Yesterday's 4-mile run I was able to finish in 40:15, just over a 10-minute pace.  Since I've been doing just over a 10-minute pace for my 2-mile runs, I'm more than pleased to do the same thing for a longer run.

Next Saturday we bump up to a 5-mile run, which makes me both excited and nervous.  I hope my aches and pains start to level off by then.
