Today's run: 4 miles!
Just so you know: this is the beginning of record-setting distances for me. From here on out, any additional mileage is an all-new record.
It wasn't the easiest run ever, that's for sure. I only slept 5 hours last night because I was up late finishing a paper, and today I was in class from 8-5. So I wasn't really well-rested. Also because of these issues, I spent a chunk of the day in class feeding myself little sugary treats to try to stay alert. Not the best thing. But I wasn't planning on running today. I thought that if my class didn't get out until 5 (which was the scheduled end time), I wouldn't have time to get over to the gym and run before it closed at 6. But we happily were done early at 4:30, so I raced over there and squeezed in the run in time to be one of the last people to walk out of the gym at 6pm on the nose.
I was doing all right for a while--I fell into my usual pace for the first 3 miles. I do have a really consistent pace--my splits are almost always perfectly even. The fourth mile started to get rough. I got a little cramp, and my legs started to get sore, particularly the inner part of my left shin. But with only a half-mile to go, I knew that I could do it, and I was determined to run the whole thing. So I did!
Now I'm whipped. My legs are still sore, so I'm not really looking forward to my leisurely 2-mile run tomorrow. But I'm excited that I've bumped up into distances that I've never done before, and haven't really sacrificed my time/pace at all.
And now, off to bed.
