Today I got an email from a woman who said she was friends with my Dad in high school. She had heard about what I was doing for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (probably through my Dad), and wanted to tell me that she was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma at the age of 34. Although she does still have cancer, she is now 60 years old and a survivor. She was so grateful to me for doing this, and to LLS for the work that they do.
I was incredibly touched by her short note. After all, she overcame a lifetime of battling the C-beast, made a generous donation to LLS, and was thanking me for what I'm doing? My challenge is so small next to hers and others who have to go through all the horrors of the physical pain, the exhaustion, the doctors, the insurance, the mental anguish, etc. Thank you, ma'am, for your generous financial gift, and congratulations for making it so far as a survivor! I will certainly take more than a few steps for you, and there is no need to thank me. :)
