So, there was an earthquake this morning at around 4:30 a.m. centered near West Salem, IL, registering at 5.4 intensity, which I curiously felt in my shaking bed this morning. I was already completely awake and wondered what it was. I even thought, "was that an earthquake? No way, it couldn't have been...." but I really couldn't come up with ( Read more... )

Just imagine what it would have been like in 1812, when there was a ~12 intensity originating in that area. Just like that, only 1,000,000+ times as intense. :)

Okay, I pulled a "Clinton" and "misremembered" :)

It was only an 8. So only 800-1,000 times as intense.

Actually, they said on the news that we're due for another one sometime in the 8 range. We were supposed to have a strong one in Michigan by 2000, but that didn't happen, so now they're saying sometime before 2040.
