"you can't will your cunt wet"

Friday my dad turned 50. I have been conditioned by society to think that's old and expect for him to keel over any time now. Surprisingly (or maybe not so much), I don't think 50 is old. I think it's the perfect age to try new things, be daring, drop old habits or friends that keep you down, live life the way you want. Even though I say that I don't want to be old, I think the journey to old age could be kinda fun.

Saturday I woke up at 8 in the freaking morning. I was in my car and on the road by 9. I was hit in the back by some older woman by 11. I was in Tampa by noon and eating lunch with my best friend by 12:30ish. I washed my car which was stupid because apparently it's ladybug season and those bitches got all over my windshield and front bumper on the way back home today.

I met up with my buddy SS who I work with at Planned Parenthood, her brother, and one of her oldest friends at the 42nd Street Bistro in South Tampa. We had drinks though I think those fuckers didn't put any alcohol in mine.

Afterwards, we drove to the Tampa Performing Arts Center (TPAC) to see Ani DiFranco. In case you weren't aware, I freaking love that woman. If I were lesbian, she'd be at the top of my list of people to have sex with simply because she is intelligent, witty, and has a fantastic politically-active mentality. Not to mention her music is great too.

Ani was either in a silly mood (or in a mild mood the other times I have seen her) because she came out while Dan Bern was opening for her and sang and strummed a little. She was more interactive with the crowd than I have ever seen-and damned funny too. At one point, she was singing a song that I didn't know and she couldn't remember the words to the first verse. She joked that when the first and last verse are nearly the same, it fucks you up every time. So, a friend from Tampa, Steph to the rescue, shouted out the opening lines to her. It was very odd.

Some of the new songs she sang were really good too. After the show, Stephanie ran up to the stage to get the set list (I think it's a hobby of sorts to collect those). When we finally met up with her later, she was not only successful in her quest for that piece of paper, she also was given the pick that Ani used (with the RBR logo on it, of course). Crazy.

I hung out with SS and her friends. We went to a bar by the old Tampa Theatre called The Hub and had a few drinks. SS was tired so we dropped her off at her car and we went to another bar called the Dubliner. It was definitely more yuppie and South Tampa-ish but I had fun goofing off with people I had never hung out with before.

Before going home, SS's friend (who is nearly twice my age but looks 25 and is cute) decided it would be a good idea to kiss me. Don't tell SS. I don't know how she would feel about that. I didn't exactly mind but it was strange. All-in-all, I had a good night: I was happy to see Ani, meet new people, and have a few drinks.
