Hotch doesn’t want to sign the divorce papers. He doesn’t want to fight Haley, he just doesn’t want the divorce. He wants his family - whole, intact , under one roof. What he wants, as he told Reid, doesn’t matter. The divorce is happening.
It still takes time for him to take out the paperwork, find a pen and start signing his name to the bottom of the pages.
When he puts the pen down and leans back in his chair he realizes. What he wants most is not to have failed. Failed Jack, failed Haley, failed his marriage, failed himself.
