On his lonely way back home
Rossi’s known Hotch for longer than any other member of the team. He’s known Hotch long enough to know what makes him tick.
He knows what’s going on under the carefully crafted facade of control, knows exactly how and why a prosecuting attorney joined a SWAT team, how Hotch takes his whiskey, where he hides the spare key, and why he wears a suit to a job without a dress-code. He doesn’t just know when Hotch is lying, he knows the truth under the lie and why Hotch is telling it.
At the end of the day, he’s not surprised he walks in to find Hotch beating a corpse that used to be Foyet and used to have a face. Not surprised by the blood splattering Hotch's face and soaking the sleeves of his shirt, either.
Rossi won’t justify to Strauss, but he knows why.
And he approves.
