The 2007 List,
The 2008 List,
The 2009 List Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD and Bernard Cribbins Q&A. BC was on top form, the best thing to say about the film is that it had Daleks in it!
Nine An enjoyable musical with some great songs and great performances. Mileage will vary.
Toy Story 2 3D One of the greatest movies of all time. The End.
Invictus A superb drama, based on real events. Even if you don't *like* rugby - watch it!
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Greek Myths, believable setting, new cuties to look at (paging Kevin McKidd!) and a good, engrossing story too. Recommended
Predator One of the best action films evar. Also, Mac/Blaine y/y? DADT be damned!
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Possibly the greatest chick flick EVAR! The End
Alice In Wonderland (2010) Another excellent (if episodic) film from Tim Burton. And no one should do that in a kilt!
The Princess and the Frog 'Disney return to 2D animation with a good film' shock. Not in the same league as 'Beauty and the Beast' (1992) but few are
I Love You Phillip Morris Based on a true story (really!) this is a beautiful, sweet, gay love story. Highly recommended! (and don't leave until the credits!)
Män som hatar kvinnor/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Blacker than a Sith's heart and not for the faint of heart either but it works as a film and a story. Recommended
How To Train Your Dragon An excellent film let down by some poor choices of voice cast. Scottish adults and American kids? Riiight! Toothless more than makes up for it, mind
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock Not the best of the 'original' films (that's Wrath of Kahn) but still utterly awesome!
Clash Of The Titans (2010) If you know the legends, do NOT see this film. If you've seen the Harryhausen original, do NOT see this film. If you don't fall into either of the above heathen! you may enjoy this. Avoid!
Whip It An excellent, if low key, coming of age story. Excellent script, excellent acting and fierce women on skates. Highly recommended!
Iron Man II A superb sequel to the 2008 film. Recommended
The Losers The first 'military team gone rogue' film of the year and very good with it. Chris Evans (no, not that one!) singing 'Don't Stop Believing' will never get old!
The Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time It was either this or the England v Algeria game. This was far more enjoyable
2001: A Space Odyssey A classic and rightly so. And the last 20 minutes still scramble my brains
Fahrenheit 451 This was a very *strange* film. Very artificial and very difficult to like
THX 1138 George Lucas' 'arthouse' movie all gussied up for the 21st century. An interesting film but I more enjoy his later efforts...
Inception Without a doubt, my best film of the year. Christopher Nolan is a damn genius! Cannot recommend it highly enough
Toy Story III A fitting end to the trilogy - not the best of the trilogy but still likely to be one of the best films of the year
Inception Still as awesome as the first time I saw it
The A-Team The 80's tv show updated for the '10's and just as awesome as I remember it;) Recommended!
The Man Who Fell To Earth Well, as much as I like David Bowie, that's two hours of my life I won't get back!. Avoid
Toy Story III Still awesome - even in IMAX
Inception IMAX just shows off how wonderful this film is. Amazing!
The Great Escape One of the greatest war films ever and highly watchable. Recommended
Bullit Arguably one of the 'stylish' films ever. And boy oh boy, wasn't Robert Vaughn hot back in the day?
Memento The film that brought Christopher Nolan to acclaim and it *still* packs a powerful punch. Recommended
Inception Seen as part of a double bill with the above film. Utterly fantastic!
Salt A very good (if a *leetle* far-fetched!) film with a female hero. More films like this please!
Wonders of the Solar System and Q&A with Professor Brian Cox. Last episode of the series shown and the Professor was on top form. Give him a pint of Stella and just let him *talk*. Awesome
Sunshine (2007 Seen as part of the
In The Shadow Of The Sun evening. I loved it when I saw it for the first time in '07 and I still love it now. Not to mention - Capa = Prof Brian Cox y/y?
Scott Pilgrim versus the World I gave this a try but a) I'm too old and the wrong gender to be the target of this film and b) I thought that nearly the entire cast were far more interesting than the lead and which does not make for a good film! Avoid!
Metropolis The granddaddy of Science Fiction and a bona-fide classic. Well worth a watch
Star Trek VI: The Voyage Home I saw this at the cinema when it first came out... in 1987. Needless to say it's dated somewhat, but it's still a good film;)
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country The last and second best Original Star Trek film. Always worth a watch
Flickan som lekte med elden/The Girl Who Played With Fire Not as good as the original but still well worth a watch. If nothing else for Noomi Rapace, who is mesmerising
Star Trek: Nemesis The last of the Trek films before the reboot, the only one I hadn't seen at the time of release since IV in 1987 and it's only really worth watching for Tom Hardy and Sir Patrick Stewart. The rest is... crap!
Star Trek (2009) One of the best films of last year and still awesome!
Moon (2009) *Another* of the best films of last year. A modern classic and well worth watching again and again. Highly recommended!
Inception Still fantastic
Inception And one more, for luck;). Best film of the year. The End.
Back To The Future For a film that's clocking in at 25 years old, this is still a fantastic film. Highly recommended
Despicable Me It's not in the same league as Pixar but... still brilliant. Well worth a watch and a DVD purchase
Womb A bleak sci-fi story that takes a story from the news and plays it out... with mixed results. Yes, Matt Smith is in this but I'd recommend re-watching S5 than this
It Happened One Night The daddy of all romantic comedies and it shows. A lot of the current stories could take a leaf or two out of this book! Recommended
Easy A Heavens above! A teen comedy that relies on smarts rather than fart gags! Highly recommended!
RED When I grow up, I want to be Dame Helen Mirren. She is awesome and raises this from being good to very good! Recommended
Let Me In The inevitable remake of 'Let The Right One In' is a lot better than it really should be. The two leads are superb. Still would recommend the original mind!
Monsters One of the finest films I've seen this year. A love story, a road trip, a dream with squids the size of a six storey building! Highly Recommended!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 I'm sure this will make more sense if I'd actually read the book before hand. I didn't and it didn't
Unstoppable A bloody good action thriller - with a strong female lead character, Denzel Washington being being easy on the eyes and Chris Pine showing that there is more to him than just new school Kirk. Recommended!
Megamind This was a surprise. An excellent take on superhero conventions, the Nice Guy syndrome and Will Ferrell playing it (almost) straight. Recommended!
The Social Network This left me cold - Priveledged white guys being mysoginistic assholes for 2 hours. Not my scene. Is likely to sweep the Oscars that should belong to Inception though
Monsters Just as awesome the second time around. Downloaded the soundtrack and have decided that yes, it is circular
Tron: Legacy I loved the original and I love this. Bruce Boxleitner still looks hot and unexpected cameo is awesome and unexpected! Also Daft Punk's OST - second best of the year
Burlesque Yes, it's cheesy, yes, it's fluffy, but it had pretty dancing and Stanley Tucci was awesome as was Cher. So ner!
