(I solemly swear that my next post will have nothing to do with movies! Honest!;))
Coco Avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel)
Stars Audrey Tatou as Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, the founder of the fashion house that still bears her name today.
A biopic obviously, covers her life from childhood to the blooming of her business. I enjoyed it, if nothing else for spotting the influences which are regularly referenced by the company's designs (black and white, sailor stripes, red etc... yes, I have an interest in fashion... what of it?)
If you like biopics and clothes, then I'd recommend this as a DVD rental.
GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
If you haven't already guessed this, I do love a good, dumb, action film every so often. Give me cute men, bromanceslash on a silver platter, large explosions and bad science and I'm a happy monster. If you're looking for me to apologise for this... then you're going to have to wait a very long time.
GI Joe ticked all of those boxes for me. With added male nudity and Christopher Eccleston looking like sex on legs - having 'borrowed' John Barrowman's 'birth' accent (Glaswegan) and a leaf out of the Ianto Jones School of dressing to impress;). Unfortunately - not together. Shame!
The story is not much to write home about but it's a 1000x better than the waste of space called Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
In short, if you liked The Mummy, then I can happily recommend GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra to you. *Especially* if you're a pervy Nine fancier!
Waiting for Godot
Not a film but a play - starring Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Just finished it's run in London and... Is now a good time to admit that I've never read any Beckett and am still pondering what the play was about?
I personally think it's a form of purgatory - Godot is actually God and that they are going over and over the same day (ala Groundhog Day) until a past wrong has been righted. I may be right or I might be so wrong it's not even mentionable! Answers below;)
It goes without saying that McKellen and Stewart were a magnificent double act. Every plaudit they get for being some of the best actors of their generation - well deserved, everyone of them. Bryan Singer *knew* exactly what he was doing when he cast these two for the X-Men films. I don't know if there is any possibilty it's going to turn up on tv or dvd but if I hear about it, I'll yell. Well worth a watch.
