Review-O-Matic: Coraline (with added Q&A with Henry Selick and Neil Gaiman)

May 07, 2009 14:32

Don't shout at me but...  I haven't read the book yet (yes, I call myself a Gaiman Fangirl...  I shall rectify this...  once I have gotten through the ten books currently in my to read pile!)

Even so, the Monster Rule of Movie Adaptions* applies....

Personally, I thought it was a great film, one of the best I've seen this year.  If you haven't seen it, then make sure you do at some point.  It's funny, scary, beautiful and just pure Gaiman.  I may have more movies to get through than any human should watch this month (not to mention car woe! from hell) but I want to go see this again.

As for the Q&A - I've never had the pleasure of hearing Neil Gaiman speak before.  He was simply lovely.  If you read his blog - he comes across as being exactly the same.  Oh and he sounds a bit like Alan Rickman.

I loved every moment - even sitting next to Comic Book Guy (from the Simpsons) didn't dent my evening.

So verdict?  Highly, highly recommended!

*The Monster Rule of Movie Adaptions states that any film that is based on a book/tv show/play/biography must be understandable and watchable by anyone who has no previous experience of the original text.  See: V for Vendetta, Watchmen, LotR etc.
