apple and oranges

okay i know i said i don't post, and i don't. however jo thought this was just the funniest thing.
so i work at a "firm" run by mainly chinese people catering to mostly the chinese in and around monterey park. though i don't know why, the head honcho of the firm doesn't even like chinese people, especially the ones from monterey park. that does not stop him from doing business with them. it also doesn't stop him from complaining about them after they leave his presence. i come to find that they hired me because they wanted to give off the image cross-culture and diversity, having a "lovely young white girl" answering the phone and greeting people that walk in. because it makes perfect sense when your clientele speaks no english. though i must say i am definitely picking up the language. it's sad really when your chinese is worse than your spanish. my grandparents are so disappointed.
so there's about 11 of us who work at this fine firm of ours and are divided into three different sections of this "firm" according to "specialties": media, literature, regular office. now it just so happens that the people in the media department are from various parts of mainland china. the people working in the literature department are from hong kong and macau, and as most of you well know or should know, are not communist territories. the big boss-man is from mainland but was kicked out in the forties when the communists took over so is technically from hong kong. then there's the two americans....so much for diversity. and you think "golly...what's this have to do with anything?" a lot lemme tell you. i wouldn't think you could play dirty office politics in such a tiny "firm" with 11 people who are devoutly christian. hooo boy can you!!! it's the devout christians who are the sneakiest. their self-righteousness tends to get in the way of oh....everything. i have never seen so many people stand on one soap box. i'm waiting for it to give and collapse because of the weight, just like my sanity. so now it's a war of the occupied territories. hong kong vs. the mainland. nasty remarks made during staff meetings AFTER bible study, yes i said bible study and yes it's all i can do not to vomit. tasteful aren't we? tattling to the boss's wife about the tiny insignificant things like staying later than five. tattling!! what are we? five? and would you believe it's the hong kong-ites that are the underhanded ones? there's 11 of us!!! i don't know how one can think you can get ahead. i don't even know what you're trying to get ahead of. there's 11 of us. if you're the assistant editor of the magazine and you're tattling on the digital media editor, what do you hope to accomplish? did you want his job? you're most likely getting paid equal if not more than he is? is it to gain favor with the boss-man? well that's particularly useless, because he's completely oblivious, and if he's not he sure plays it well. no it's mainly because he's from china and you're from hong kong. the two of us who are american are caught in the middle but are looked at sideways and spied on, as if they're trying to see who we're talking about behind their backs and which side we're on. well guess what? it's ALL OF YOU!!! and to your faces nonetheless, you just don't understand us because of the language barrier.....HA!! Oh and lest we not forget the one taiwanese lady? well it turns out....nobody likes her. surprised?....sad isn't it? now don't get me wrong i don't hate EVERYONE! i actually have no problem with the media department they're sweet people if not a bit needy, but i like them, they're good people. everyone else makes my skin crawl and leave a bad taste in my mouth. i just don't get it, it's apples and oranges with these people, but what they don't understand is that in the end they're all just a bunch of fuckin' FRUIT...cakes anyhow.
i really need to find another job....
