best news almost ever

I went to Maryland (Univ of Maryland in College Park) for my advising appointment yesterday. I am entering the Master's program in the Dept of Special Ed to get certified to teach early childhood education and severe disabilities. They're two separate certificates after getting the Master's for Special Ed. It's a two-year full time program and there are two classes offered this summer and next summer so that I can a) get a head start and b) not have such a class load during the year.

However, that's not the spectacular news. The news was that as I'm sitting there and she's explaining the classes and the other program I could choose, while I'm deciding about which to do, one's more intense (the one I chose) and the other isn't as long or full time, she said, and you were asking about money for school. I have some grant money that's left over, it's going to expire in 2 years, which is when you'll be finishing the program, and it's full tuition and fees as well as $50 a semester per class to help with books.

And after I pulled my brain back together and regained the ability to think, I said of course, this is a dream come true.

So I walked back in the cold rain, down the hill past the diner to Mowatt Garage to find my car, in a total daze. And of course Patrick has turned his phone of for god knows what reason and I can't call him to tell him this ridiculous news. I leave voicemails to each of my parents' cell phones and the home phone, call Sara and leave her a voicemail asking if this was legit. I got to my car, and driving around the garage finding the way out (the first way out only took some card that of course I don't have), just sat there going, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.

I feel that this is too good to be true, all I have to do for the money is work for 4 years in the field of early childhood..which is exactly the job I'll be looking for anyway. I don't have to pay for anything except books and a parking permit. This is nuts. I 'm generally lucky, but usually in small insignificant ways of just random bad shit doesn't really happen to me (though the ones that do I do myself cause I'm careless). This is total whoa.

Patrick took me to Jordan's last night after we got out of work, thankfully the rain stopped, and we celebrated. Though I think that tequila margarita business left me a headache today.  It still hasn't sunk in and I don't think it really will until I get the acknowledgement thing to sign and start seeing the money go into my student account.
