So I found this negative review for Up.

I'm sorry, but it sounds like she missed the point of about half the movie. D=

The "random" events she complains about all come together near the end of the movie and are part of the plot. To name one example, the bird they find while trying to get the house to Paradise Falls turns out to be the bird that Carl's childhood hero, Charles, has been trying to capture so he can save his reputation. Charles' motivation was clear, yet the reviewer missed that, too.

The movie also doesn't have a "thin" premise. There are lots of emotional themes in this movie (in a nutshell- love, loss, and death), and she talked about them too. So how she can possibly discuss the themes, understand them, and still say the movie has a "thin premise" is beyond me.

I get the impression that the reviewer saw the previews for the movie and was disappointed when the movie was entirely different from that, and therefore decided that the movie wasn't good.

Also, I don't think kids would be scared of a thunderstorm in a movie as she said they might. Maybe some of the subject matter of the movie would be too mature for them to fully understand, but that shouldn't prevent them from seeing it, even if it might prevent them from fully enjoying it.

Anyway, it's probably too late to see Up in theaters now since I apparently caught it on its last day here in Miami, but if you haven't seen it already, be sure to get it when it comes out on DVD. <3
