Carson checked the napkin and saw there were new blood stains on it, but at least it was obvious the bleeding was slowing down. It was something small, but these people seemed to be scared by the sight of blood, so he decided to go outside until he was sure the bleeding had stopped. He was about to head back inside when John came next to him, a worried frown on his face.

"Are you okay?" he asked, studying him. "You should sit down."

Carson wanted to protest, but John seemed to be very determined as he steered him towards a larger rock. When he sat down, John crouched next to him and took the napkin from his hand, offering a new one.

"We should have someone check on you," he said, worried. "I'll call Rodney and Teyla and we'll go straight to Atlantis when you're ready," he continued, looking for something in his vest. After a few moments, he gave Carson a powerbar. "Eat this. I'll get you water."

Before Carson had the chance to say anything, John was running towards the well in the middle of the village. A few seconds later he was back, holding a cup of water and a damp cloth. He gave Carson the cup and carefully folded the cloth. "I'm sorry this happened," he said, looking down.

"John, you don't have to... this is just -"

"I shouldn't have left you alone," John interrupted, frowning. "I thought it would be okay. You have to tell me who did this so I can talk to the mayor."

"Talk to the mayor?" Carson asked, puzzled. "Why would you talk to the mayor about this?"

"Someone punched you," John said, angry. "They have to pay."

Carson grinned, wincing as the pain briefly returned. "Come on, I'll show you." He got up and walked inside, with John following. The only patient, a five year old girl, was listening to her parents as they told her a story. She was holding a small toy, cuddling it. As soon as she saw Carson, her eyes went wide, her lower lip started trembling and tears appeared in her eyes.

"I'm sorry," the girl said, words slurring slightly.

"There's nothing to worry about," Carson said, smiling. "How is she doing?" he asked, turning towards her parents.

"She's doing well. Doctor Matthew came and talked to us," the girl's mother said, and Carson nodded.

"If you have any questions -"

"Thank you very much," the woman interrupted, smiling.

Carson turned around to see that John wasn't inside anymore. He went outside and found him standing a few meters away from the entrance, frowning. "I don't understand," he said when Carson got next to him.

"She needed surgery and when she was waking up, I went to talk to the parents, to make sure they don't get worried."

John's frown deepened. "Still doesn't make any sense."

"She punched me when she woke up... because of the anesthesia," Carson stated simply.

John smiled, shaking his head disbelievingly. "And I thought kids are nice and fun."

Carson grinned, "They are, most of the time."
