I really owe everyone an update. I am also going to try my hand at publishing public journal entries. I am not going to do it all the time, but I like for people who are not on LJ to be able to read what is going on with me in more than 200 characters. :)
By way of an explanation... I have become involved in a program through an autism research organization, where I write journal entries based on prompts they provide. It is to see if journaling can help moms of kids on the spectrum with dealing with all of that stuff. My LJ is not part of that, but it occurred to me that if I started journaling more (again... I LJ'd every day for several years and fell off the wagon after I got immersed in Facebook), I might be better able to deal with my daily stressors. We'll see.
Misty is doing great. She started preschool the first week of May. She goes two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday), and she took to it like a fish to water. I really think she would benefit from more days at preschool, and I would gladly send her (as she's going to day care still most of the other days anyhow, due to my work), but I can't afford it, and Dave's pitching in only $100 per month for preschool. She has lots of friends at preschool already. She's been learning some letters and learned her left from her right. There is also a video of her singing grace
here (it's a Christian preschool) which is pretty darned cute. They also do karate on Thursdays and she is thoroughly enjoying that. She told her dad that she needs to get the "unicorn" for it (guess she misheard "uniform"?!). Heh.
I can't remember whether I mentioned it, but a few months ago, Misty potty trained in a day. She has had accidents in bed all of three times since then, and the only accidents in her pants have been when she was having a tantrum -- two times. She is amazing. Guess that's why she waited til she was 3.5... She wanted to be really really ready. :)
Andrew was doing better at school, and is now having lots of trouble again. We are having an emergency IEP meeting this coming Friday. I called for it because I did not want the school year to end without handling these issues.
He has been doing a lot of blaming of stuff on other people. He has a hard time taking responsibility for his actions and the consequences of them. I get a lot of whining and blaming.
He also still has some issues with his health that we are working on. Nothing serious. But still... I am his mom and I worry. He has dropped a little bit of weight lately; he and I think it's due to the fact that he walks to and from school every day. I actually had to buy Mr. Husky Pants a belt last week.
Ricky has been doing pretty well. The dizzy spells come and go. I've got a handicapped hangtag for him because of them. It's temporary again because we are still waiting for things to improve. As far as his CF, things are okay. In fact, he is too healthy to participate in a clinical trial that's currently going on that he might have been able to help with. Go figure. He is also getting the major teenage attitude, which sometimes I swear will be the death of me. I know that he is very literal, given his position on the autism spectrum (recently, in case I haven't mentioned it, reclassified to Asperger's), but lately he has been intentionally taking things literally that he KNOWS are not supposed to be. ARGH.
Ricky is graduating from eighth grade soon. I know, I can't believe it either. He still hasn't entered puberty yet. See his friends in
this picture? They are both graduating too, and are both younger than him. And they have both entered puberty. See how much bigger they are than him? I feel like I should call the endocrinologist again. I don't know if they realize just how much he's delayed. He has seemed taller to me lately but I dunno... His growth curve has really started to fall.
As for me... I am currently seeing
aiyume and I am very happy. :D I've been working sporadic hours at the library still (various branches) and also doing a ton of secret shopping. I haven't burned out on that yet and I hope I don't! My eBay and Amazon sales have also picked way up and earlier this year I established an official business (Sprecher Sales) for it. :) I love selling online. I hope that someday I can actually make a living out of it.
This weekend (on the 22nd) we went to Maker Faire for the fourth year in a row. This time without Misty as it was her weekend to be with her dad. I got some great pictures that I will post soon.
As you might recall, my mom broke her leg last year and ended up being laid up with it for basically the rest of the year. Well, on Mother's Day this year she got an infection where she had had the surgery on the leg (to put pins, screws, and a plate in) and she had to have another surgery to remove most of the hardware and remove the infection. So she's laid up again, on 6 weeks of antibiotics, at home. She's doing okay, but it's discouraging to her and to us for sure. She's really strong and she's already healing quickly, which is good news. :)
Guess that is it for now. Hope everyone is doing well and you'll be seeing more posts from me! :)
