THIS EPISODE!!

I was stunned it was amazing and did everything I hoped and didn't expect and pulled it off beautifully, from Sayaka's moments with each of the girls (yelling at Madoka, threatened by Homura, Kyoko trying to reach out to her), and Madoka's talk with Kyubey/QB/Kyuubee/INCUBATOR and her potential as a Magical Girl, Kyubey getting cheesed, to Homura's emotional spillage RIGHT IN THE FEELINGS, and Sayaka turning into a witch. That was great!

I don't buy into Homura = future!Madoka for the reasons mentioned, that it reads more like a dear friend kind of situation. Someone brought up a theory about Homura = future!Sayaka which I kinda like but not banking on. (Aka what if in another timeline Madoka turned into a magical girl, did get the power to turn Sayaka back to a normal person, but terrible things happen so Sayaka makes another wish to Kyubey to change things. But that doesn't quite explain why it sounds like Homura has been through it so many times.)

As for Madoka = Charlotte, I would think Madoka'd be a world-ending level of a witch if she ever became one. And that Homura would have been more emotionally punched by killing Charlotte.

Re: gem color not being hair color. Doubt it has much significance but WHO KNOWSSS. Plus, technically Mami's was orange when her hair was blonde.

THAT IS WHAT MADOKA MAGICA IS DOING TO US. On paper, it seems a little silly, it's not like we haven't seen intense shows before or ones that tease you into theorizing about them and yet... SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SHOW.

You know, I hadn't noticed that Sayaka had important interaction with each of the other girls in this episode (though, I have noticed that it's a very interesting series for how they all have nicely defined relationships with each other, that the show doesn't entirely pigeon hole them into just one or two relationships) but that's a really good observation--and a clear sign that Sayaka was probably extra doomed. And I think most people at least had an inkling that Sayaka was going to bite it here, but it was so well done, so beautifully built up that I can't imagine complaining about it. And Homura's emotional spillage RIGHT IN THE FEELINGS, that is my new favorite way to describe it, ever.

And that Homura would have been more emotionally punched by killing Charlotte.

Even setting aside all the other stuff (like how Madoka's witch would probably be a world-ending one), I think you nailed it right there. I kept thinking, well, Mami and Sayaka and Madoka wouldn't have known that it was Madoka's witch! (Or one of Madoka's witches?) But Homura would know and even if she was keeping her cool, there would have been some little sign, I think.

I like the theory that maybe things happened differently in Homura's original timeline, maybe Kyouko was the one who was killed by a witch or Mami was the one who turned into a witch or Homura was Madoka's best friend who couldn't save her. Not that I don't like the time loop theory, too (and I think I trust them to pull it off, after they went in the obvious direction, but knocked it out of the park here), but I like to keep as many theories in mind as possible here.
