I am becoming THAT FAN about magical girls. ("Becoming"? Ha ha.)

This is how my life goes lately: In the past couple of months, I've watched a lot of stuff. 30+ episodes of Chuck to catch up to (nearly) current? Check. 30+ episodes of Lie to Me and falling in love with it? Check. 40+ episodes of Castle? Check. Anxiously waiting for the newest Supernatural episode, watching it, and having thoughts and ( Read more... )

It's so much easier when someone can narrow down what genre they like! But, then, I'm one of those people who goes, "Well, I like lots of different things! Just recommend something you think is overall good!", too. I imagine they want to tear their hair out at that. orz

If you like a mix between light&fluffy moments with the occasional more serious moments, Fruits Basket is a really excellent series to watch, as it's one of the classics of shoujo anime. And it's actually a really good adaptation! If you don't mind that they only covered about half of the series with the anime. (But it ends on a good note.)

Skip Beat! is excellent, though, it's more frantically paced and focused on humor than Kimi ni Todoke was, it's still one of the best shoujo anime adaptations out there, too. I love the main OTP of the series, but even more I love the main character herself, she is hardcore awesome.

If you don't mind longer series, One Piece is my favorite anime/manga pretty much ever. It's going on nearly 500 episodes now but a) they go faster than you'd think (I watched, like, 75 of them in a week because I couldn't stop) and b) it has an excellent mix of characters! If you're looking for m/m ships or m/f ships or even the occasional f/f ship or if you don't want to ship anyone at all, this is an excellent series for that. But it's also the most magnificently plotted series and most emotional series I've ever watched/red. (Downsides: It's long as hell and the art takes some getting used to. I think Oda's a genius, but it takes awhile to be able to see why.) It's a Weekly JUMP series as well, which means there's going to be a fight ever episode. At least it's one of the better anime adapations out there, though!

If you don't mind an obscure series recommendation, I have been in love with Tenshi ni Narumon! for years now. It's this quirky series about a boy who finds a naked girl in the forest, she follows him home, and carts her crazy magical family along with her. The cast of characters is so delightful and there's canon gay and awesome women and awesome men and an amazing ending and it's just. One of my perfect series. ♥

Durarara!! is an incredibly impossible to describe series but it's fantastic. It's got instant classic characters, it's got so many badass scenes you can't even begin to count them, and the animation is lovely. It's a more recent-ish series, so there's still a pretty active fandom for it and I liked that it had a lot of fight scenes but it wasn't really about the fight scenes.

If you want something more classic, Cowboy Bebop is a good one to go with, since it makes it onto everyone's list for a reason. Also, I think Mushishi is one of the most beautiful series I've ever seen, but it's very slow-paced. I like that there was never any rush to get anywhere, it was about a wandering journey instead, the travels of one man as he takes on different cases that slowly unwind. The scenery of it was just stunning, too.
