ჯ First off,
Level E is getting a short anime? I'm kind of with the commentor who said that getting a Chimera Ant Arc anime would been more probable, you would think, except isn't that one still unfinished? And, really, aside from vague interest, my biggest thought here is, "Man, Japan loves Togashi, don't they? ........not that I blame them."
ჯ Second, X-parrot has a post about
why everyone should watch Gintama and I heartily agree. Hell, I'm finally snagging the anime because I started the manga years and years ago, but when the original scanslators (who were awesome) dropped it and a new group took over, they just didn't do the series justice and nearly all the jokes/references were lost, so I'd never picked it up again, but she says the anime fansubs are much better in that regard. So, despite that I have a huge backlog already and it's the new tv season, I am snagging this anime to watch. orz
ჯ Third, HO IS A HOFACE BECAUSE SHE GOT ME TO PICK UP SAIYUKI AGAIN. I'd seen that Minekura was doing RELOAD BLAST and Ibun now, but I was like, "Eh, fandom still mostly makes me want to punch them in the face a lot." so I didn't pay much attention. But then she started watching OP and I felt I owed it to her, so now I'm rereading RELOAD. I couldn't remember where the hell I left off, so I just started back at the beginning. Oh, Sanzo-ikkou, I do still love you. But I still love Sanzo and his uncaring badassery the most.
ჯ FINALLY, ONE PIECE 599 IS OUT AND THAT MEANS SPOILERS AS ALWAYS. Coherency not guaranteed. I discourage expecting it, really.
"--Also... I have just one request...." "What? I don't wanna get married."
I love that this is how the chapter starts out, with a brief flashback to just before Luffy was first arriving at Sabaody, when Hancock was giving him supplies and was obviously still crushing on him, and I'm just bawling forever that even LUFFY understands that she's talking to him and that it's the first thing out of his mouth whenever he replies to her.
And then there was Luffy dodging the bullets from the fake!Luffy and knocking them all out with his Haoushoku Haki! I really loved this whole scene it that Luffy didn't just get sucked into a showdown with these guys like we thought he would, it shows that he's grown up both emotionally and power-wise, it's a taste of what's to come with his Haki, and it was just plain cool.
Okay, overall, I really did love this chapter a lot. I love everything that Oda puts out with this series! But I'll admit that I did have some fidgeting towards the middle, despite knowing that OF COURSE we're not getting a proper Strawhats reunion until 600, I knew that even before I snagged the chapter in the first place. But it was still hard to sit through the fake!Strawhats being chased by the Marines because THOSE PAGES COULD HAVE BEEN SHOWING ME MORE OF THE STRAWHATS!!
I did find Chopper's whole thing with the fake pirates kind of hilarious. Oh, Chopper, NEVER STOP BEING THE MOST NAIVE THING EVER. IT'S SO ADORABLE. That did get Siobhan and I off on a tangent, though, because we discussed that it's hilarious because Chopper would have made that mistake even if he hadn't been separated from the group for two years, because he's just that naive! He believes everything you tell him! He didn't even recognize Usopp in a SUPER OBVIOUS costume when Sogeking first showed up! And it reminded us that Luffy and Chopper never did find out about Sogeking being Usopp, did they?
I'm not sure it really is meant to be touched on, I don't think it's an important plot point that'll be addressed or anything, but it might be hilarious if it comes up again, given that the Strawhats had a Sogeking instead of an Usopp. (Which makes sense, because Usopp never really got a clear wanted poster, but Sogeking did. I'm going to miss Sogeking, but I am glad that Usopp feels he doesn't need that persona anymore! ♥ ....you know, as far as we can tell just by 598.)
And I'm just really not onboard with Franky's new look. It's just not cute at all--though, I did have to smile that he still has his tiny briefs still on. At least some things remain the same! And I did have to lol at Robin being like, well, I guess I can't think of you as human anymore, which kind of made me wonder, too. One of the first thoughts I had about that scene was, "Huh, I wonder if this is going to slow down the Franky/Robin shippers now?" and apparently Siobhan had the exact same thought, which made me sort of wonder if Oda was doing some deliberate ship teasing. If it was just them I wouldn't have thought it, but....
THIS CHAPTER MADE IT FUN TO BE A ZOSAN FAN, I HAVE TO SAY.
I just.
I love Zoro so much.
I love him forever.
So, last chapter, we had Zoro making it to Sabaody and the ship first. WHOA, ZORO GOT A SENSE OF DIRECTION??? pretty much everyone ever thought. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS??
This week, huh, Zoro's not actually on the ship as far as we can tell. So, Sanji's going off to buy some supplies from a fisherman and the guy is flipping out because this one-eyed swordsman dude got on this boat and he's going to die so what is he supposed to do--!! And Sanji's like, ".....green hair, three katana... did he have a haramaki, too?" And then WHIPS OUT A WANTED POSTER OF ZORO and I had to laugh and laugh and laugh. I know that he probably has wanted posters of all the Strawhats, but my very first thought? ....WHY IS SANJI CARRYING AROUND A PICTURE OF ZORO??
And then we, along with Sanji, realize that ZORO GOT ON THE WRONG SHIP and, yeah, that's Roronoa for you. He got there first and STILL MANAGED TO GET LOST, FOREVER LOL. And the ship is heading to Fishman Island already! And Sanji's like *TWITCH*... that idiot... and then, he's just lucky we know where he's going. ~_~
But, oh! Something huge is coming up from under the water!
And it's a two page spread of a giant coated ship that's been cut in half as it resurfaces and Zoro's sitting on top of it as he resheathes his swords and the crew is screaming OUR DREAMS OF THE NEW WORLD--! HOW DARE YOU--! as they're scattered across the deck in disarray and Zoro pays them no attention.
Sanji's face as he's like, "Oh, he came back. .....not that I care." NOT THAT HE CARES. as;ldfkja;slkjffffff I LOVE ODA FOREVER.
Especially since Zoro's like, ch', I got on the WRONG SHIP, like, how dare the ship be the wrong one! Zoro's response to their screams? "This was the result of a quirk of fate... hate your own destinies, who set me upon your ship like an angel of death." And then we see Zoro in his new all-black outfit.
And I just.
Lol and lol and lol and lol.
Hate your own destinies, who set me upon your ship like an angel of death
TWO YEARS ON AN ISLAND WITH MIHAWK AND PERONA HAVE TOTALLY WARPED ZORO'S SENSE OF NORMAL. (God knows if I'd been stuck with Perona and Mihawk for two years, I'd have turned goth, too.)
Siobhan notes that Zoro's entry is like a repeat of Mihawk's entry, only he's grumpy because he got lost and not because they woke him up. Which is hilarious and kind of an awesome parallel, but we also wonder what this means for the future of Zoro's dream. You spend two years learning from someone like Mihawk and it's not really going to be the showdown so many fans predicted, you know? Is he still going to even have a showdown with Mihawk in order to reach his dream at all? Or is he just going to one day realize that he's the best in the world now? I'm not sure where Oda's going with this anymore.
(I suspect there'll either still be a showdown or else he'll achieve some feat that even Mihawk couldn't do.)
I also love that you really notice the symmatry of Zoro and Sanji's eyes in this chapter. I think that's part of what made me okay with Zoro losing an eye--apparently Oda made a brief mistake putting it on the right eye in the color page last week? It's definitely the left eye that has the scar--that fans spent all this time wondering if Sanji even had his left eye, which he now has back. At the same time Zoro loses his left eye. It doesn't mean anything, it's just one of those neat coincidences.
