So, it has not been Super Awesome Funtimes over here at Casa de Emopants, but I'm not here to talk about that. (Again.) Instead, I am going to be kind of a nerd. (What else is new, I know.)
Because, apparently, I cannot resist anything if it's on the iPad, I spent some time over the last couple of nights playing an MMO on it. Pocket Legends is this cute little MMO game that might not be the most advanced thing ever, but it turned out to be surprisingly addicting. I sat down with it at about 9:00 the first night and was just going to fiddle around with it for awhile. I went through the requisite tutorial phase, nothing particularly noteworthy about it, just quests and killing people and little yellow exclamation points. But it was brief and I got myself some interesting gear and I headed out into the actual multi-player part of the game. It was about what I expected--lots of people milling around, some new quests to start on, a bunch of zombies to kill. And that's when it got vaguely interesting.
I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to MMO, basically, I've played like two of them (WoW and a free one that Noel got me into that I can't remember the name of) so I don't know if the mechanics are all that new or if this is old hat around. But I was pleased to discover, oh, hey, I don't have to put together my own party! If the other person is in the same area you are, they're automatically in your party! As long as you're within a reasonable distance, you share gold and xp automatically! Awesome. And then I started wandering around, clearing quests, helping people kill zombies, gathering chest loot, etc. Suddenly, there's a knock on my door and, oh, hey, everyone else is going to bed because it's past 11.
I sat there and played that game for two hours all the while thinking it'd been half an hour, maybe 45 minutes. And, when I was having trouble with the first boss, I was like, ugh, fuck this noise, I'm not going to be a Warrior anymore, I'm going to be an Enchantress. They heal themselves. So, I loaded up a new account and played for another hour, hour and fifteen (only to get her up to level 4 and clearing about three quests, because, jfc, I have to sleep sometime) and am feeling much more intrigued by this class.
I still haven't explored all of what's available, especially not the dungeons, and, sure, I imagine part of this is the novelty of it and that may wear off soon, but! I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE GAME, SHUT UP.
Edited after I played MORE MORE MORE OMG MORE, shit, I am seriously close to just buying the expansions so I can play the rest of the storylines. This is not a huge game, I don't think. The first realm has 18 quests you can do and a level cap of 13, after that you have to purchase platinum in order to buy the other seven or eight areas (I think? somewhere around that many), which all have approximately the same amount. I think the overall level cap is about 45, but there may be updates in the future, you never know. It's not a major MMO, but you could get all the areas for about $5 and I imagine it'd take you probably at least 15 hours to complete everything.
Is there a lot of variety? No, there are only three races, the customization comes from the clothes your character wears, and it's a bit confusing to move your way around, but it's so damn addicting that I can't stop playing. Fffffffff someday I'll play a real game again. I bought Fable II yesterday, at least? (Since Best Buy was having a good sale.) Not that I didn't want to chuck it across the room when it froze while I was gathering up wanted posters, ugh.
OKAY, NOW FOR A MEME. I've seen this one around a lot, but it was measuringlife's that finally got me to crack.
Give me a character(/person) from any fandom I know at least fairly well, and I will tell you:
A) My OTP
B) The runner up
C) The anti-ship
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why
