Status update: A little worryingly numb at times. I don't think I'm shutting down, I'm still able to enjoy happy things, but... well, I watched some tv yesterday and the first episode of a series dealt with the murder of this little boy and the parents feeling bereft and grieving after him and... Shun discovers that Jun changed his locks because suddenly his key no longer works. He jiggles the knob. "Jun~~?" he calls through the door.
He hears a scraping sound and the knob jiggles from something on the other side. "Not a chance," Jun calls back to him.
"Is it because I sent you bad pictures? Or just too many pictures?" The bad pictures are not his fault. He had to photoshop himself into the collage and his only copy of Jun's wallpaper was a cellphone photo that he'd taken with Jun's phone and mailed to himself. Blowing it up big enough to work with had made it grainy and blurry. "Is it because I'm part over the picture of Sakurai-san's pouting face? Because I'm not gay but he's got a really pretty pouting face so I'd totally understand!"
Jun doesn't respond and eventually Shun gives up.
Gives up waiting, in any case. He goes home and calls Nino. "Ni-ji," he hums down the line. "Can I come over to the studios and take pictures with you guys?"
"You want to what?"
"Please, Ni-ji? Just a few?" He can't say why he wants to. If he does, Jun will certainly kill him. Or at least hurt him. And never give him another key to his apartment.
"When did you become a stalker?" Nino asks pleasantly.
Nino's pleasant tone always means 'no'. Shun makes a face at his phone. "I'll never introduce you to Takeuchi Yuko now." If he ever works with her, that is. Screw Nino's fanboy crush.
"Jun already has a project coming up with her, sorry," Nino tells him and hangs up on him.
Shun goes to Shibuya station and takes pictures in front of Arashi's ads for AU and mails them to Jun. Jun never responds and Shun gets the feeling that his mails are ending up in Jun's spam folders. He sends him a mail with 'I have terminal heart cancer' in the subject line. The body of text says: I have four days to live!
He gets an e-mail from Mao four days later. Her subject line is: How's the heart cancer? and the entire text says 'dummy, pick a cancer that exists'.
At least he's not in the spam folder.
Or wasn't.
Jun still won't mail him back.
He honestly doesn't mean to tell the reporter that thing about the wallpaper. They'd been talking about his personal life and his friends and Jun was his best friend and he even had his own futon and slippers at Jun's place but he'd also like to be part of the computer wallpaper.
He'd call Jun and warn him or apologize except he's absolutely sure that Jun's blocked his phone number.
(Shun dearly wants to point out to him that he wouldn't be calling so much if Jun would answer his mails but Jun is obviously not answering mails or his phone and last time he slipped a note under Jun's door it came right back out at him.)
Maybe, he thinks hopefully, Jun will never notice. Maybe it won't even make it through editting.

"Nino?" he answers coolly. He still hasn't forgiven him for being a kind of a bitch about his request to take pictures.
"Shun, can you answer a question for me?"
"NO!" Jun screams in the background.
"I have a picture of Leader!" Sakurai is saying in the background. "See, it's Satoshi doodling on Aiba-chan's pants!"
"Ahh, I remember that! I was still in them! I was afraid to sit down because I didn't want to smear the ink all over my butt!" says Aiba.
"SHUT UP!" Jun roars.
"A yes or no question," Nino continues blithely.
Jun, Shun reflects, never said he couldn't answer a question if Nino asked him about it first. "I think so? Is Jun tied to a chair or something?"
"No, Oh-chan is in his lap. Is one of us the background of Jun's computer?"
Honestly, he's not sure anymore. Jun probably changed it again like he had every other time Shun had put it back in place. He doesn't say anything.
Nino is smart and Shun has always liked this. "The last time you saw it, was it one of us?" he changes his question.
"Ummm..." Shun hesitates. He can't talk about it with Nino--Jun has forbidden that--but the answer is both yes and no. "No," he finally decides. It wasn't one of them.
"I'M PRETTY SURE IT'S ALL OF US," Nino declares loudly before the phone call ends.
Shun would be mad that Nino hung up on him but he knows how Nino gets when he's excited like that.
Thirty minutes later, Nino calls him back. "Hey, send your schedule over, okay?"
"Are we going to take pictures?" Shun wants to know.
Nino shrieks like a banshee and the phone makes a horrific clattering sound and it sounds like there's a cheetah or something on the loose.
"Hello?" says a new voice. This is Leader. Shun knows this because he watches all of Arashi's shows whenever he can.
"Hi," he says genially. "Are we going to take pictures together?"
"Yeah," says Ohno. "Mail Sho-kun, okay? He's best at planning. I'll send you his address so you can mail him."
"Okay," Shun agrees. "Are you going to go save Nino now?"
There's a long pause. And then, "No."
Shun loves Leader. He's just so cool.
Jun gives Shun another key to the apartment after everybody is done taking pictures. "You're an idiot," Jun tells him. "I have a location shoot in a week so don't forget to get my mail and water my plants."
Shun grins at him. "I really didn't mean to tell." He won't make Jun admit that this was fun or that Jun will love having pictures of all of them together. "I swear."
"Whatever," Jun rolls his eyes but Shun can see him fighting a grin.
The computer is password protected the next time Shun manages to get his hands on it. He tries every single word and phrase and all the numbers he can think of but nothing gets him past it. He doesn't know what Jun's desktop wallpaper is now and knowing Jun, he probably never will.
But that's okay. Shun has a feeling that he knows what it is anyway.

As hard as it was to pick a favorite thing, I think it was that Shun actually didn't mean to tell the magazine about the wallpaper, because that's so very like him, he just gets so excited that it kind of accidentally spills out!
No, wait, I lied. I love his nickname for Nino, I love his attempts to put himself in Arashi pictures, I love the text from Mao, I love Sho trying to sympathize with Jun, I love that Shun actually gets Nino enough to not be offended when he hangs up suddenly, I love Nino shrieking that he's pretty sure it's all of them, I love that Arashi just folds Shun in happily, and I love Nino's banshee shriek and Ohno picking up the phone and not going to save Nino. Because I'm not gay but he's got a really pretty pouting face so I'd totally understand! seriously had me laughing so hard I was scared I woke everyone up with it.
This is beautiful and you're beautiful for it. Jun's squishie love for his bandmates is so hard for him and it's just his luck that he has his bandmates and an extra idiot for a friend, like he doesn't have enough trouble. Though, honestly, he should be thankful that his friendship with Shun isn't like Ohmiya and Shun doesn't try to grope him. In public. Or expect Jun to grope back. Or hold hands. Or kiss. In front of the cameras.
