► - Hey, does anyone have a thread expander that works on JournalFen? I've been trying to read the Victoria Bitter Returns wank, but with all those gazillions of threads going, it's proving quite difficult. (But worth the entertainment you get out of it!) I've tried LJ thread expander and LJ thread unfolder (putting *journalfen.net/* in of ( Read more... )

And someone called him out on the Omen connection which is just so lulz worthy.

And, and, the "WHAT CHEST?" "HATE" bit.

Oh, God. They are wonderfully dysfunctional together. ♥

I love the Omen comment, especially when you flipped the page and Damian's standing there in the snow looking creepy as hell. Seriously, I came THIS CLOSE to making a Damian icon out of that, that's how great it was.

Is Damian sticking around for a couple of issues? Because I am so completely DO WANT over that.

Hey, have you read the 80 page giant this year yet? Worth reading or no?

You should get a Damian icon. Damian icons are always good things. (And really, it's hard not to love and laugh at the little shit because Dick's little, "BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT" was just great. Just beautiful because you know Dick constantly oscillates between wanting to punch Damian and just wanting to laugh at him.

I don't know but I hope so. I do like that Babs is getting a subplot away from Steph-- even if it seems like a lame subplot but still.

For Batgirl? Batman? IDK.

I really did not like the little snot at first, but he has grown on me so much. In a lot of ways I almost feel kind of protective of him because it seems like Dick and Alfred are the only ones trying with him and the little snot does need a family.

(I can understand Tim not reaching out to him, and I suppose it's not really the place for Helena or Selina or Steph. *wistful* Man, I miss Cass. She'd have been awesome with Damian. But I wish Babs would try a bit more, too. Even if I'm not sure she could get through to him/would WANT to get through to him.)

I do like that Babs is finally starting to get her own stuff away from Steph, it does make the book feel more balanced and like I can see why Birds of Prey was dropped for this. I don't particularly think it was a great move (yet?) but I'm starting to come around. Now, if only Babs could get a SUPERHERO subplot!

The Batman 80-page giant, yeah.

I think the other thing is his characterization is still all over the place. Even though Morrison's detailed a bunch of stuff about him it's the other writers who are really stepping up, I think. You can see little trends through the writers. Winick writes him angry. Dini writes him entitled. Morrison can't figure out what to go with, etc. (WHY NO I HAVE NOT BEEN REREADING ( ... )

If I weren't so damn behind on everything, I'd take some time to reread a bunch of Damian issues to be able to better discuss this with you, but it sounds like you're pretty spot on with the writers' various takes. The different vibes to Damian work well enough for me because he's still enough of a blank slate and because... I can buy both angry and entitled and a lot of other things from him right now. (What I will be really curious to see is if some writer eventually tries to tackle a more vulnerable Damian. Because I can buy that, you just... would have to step really carefully.)

Damian's done too much shit to Tim and basically replaced him and is just another reminder that Bruce isn't there, so I don't blame Tim. Plus, Tim's not an adult yet, you know? I don't feel like smacking him and telling him to suck it up because the kid's only ten and you should be more mature. (Which, to be honest, I do kind of feel like saying to Babs sometimes. And Selina. And pretty much all the other adults except Alfred ( ... )

Oh! I'll comment to the rest of this in a second but is the 80 page giant the thing about the snow storm? That opens with a Batman & Robin team up then the rest are all little shorts? *headtilts*

*reading* Yeah, that's what it looks like! I'm about 6 pages in now and it's... all right, I guess?

Yeah, I did buy that one. I missed about two weeks worth of comics so I ended up spending about $90 dollars (after a 20% discount) e_e.

I haven't read them all because I've been busy as all hell though. :/

(Also, omg. I just realized I have a Damian icon but no Dick icon. THERE IS SOMETHING DEEPLY WRONG WITH THAT.)

I read the first story with Dick and Damian and... it was all right, but it wasn't exactly good, either. It's just them in a snowstorm watching people who are desperate because Gotham's been under siege by the weather for so long. It's... really kind of preachy and doesn't even get in any good lines. I'm hoping the rest of the issue fares better.

(I honestly can't tell if I'm making progress on catching up or not anymore. @__@)

OMG WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE A DICK ICON. YOU NEED A DICK ICON, FISHIE.

Yeah, it wasn't really a topic that needed more focus on it... at least I didn't think so.

(Honestly, my happy place book right now is "Streets of Gotham". I just kept pushing "Batgirl #5" for the epic lulz.)

I AM TOO PICKY. IT WOULD NEED TO BE A PERFECTLY AWESOME ICON. *NODS, NODS* And that's hard to do with McDaniel art. ^^;; (His stuff doesn't frame down that well. :/ )

I'm about halfway through now and I like the other stories a lot better. The first one was just... completely pointless and not even about Batman & Robin, without even any pretty art to distract me. But the Alfred one was okay and I liked the one with that ghost chick with the white scarf across her face. I'd say it's worth reading when you have the time, but not OMG MUST READ NOW.

(I like the snow theme running through the issue but jfc I'm already cold, I don't need to feel MORE freezing!)

Get more than one Dick icon? :D That way it wouldn't have to be perfect, instead you could always have one for whatever the occasion needed! :D?

Speaking of! Did you read the Batman Annual and Detective Annual issues I mentioned in another comment spam-- somewhere? IDK.

(Also, on an unrelated note, Batman!Dick bores me but Dick trying to be Batman interests me? Does that make sense? Like I like Dick out of the cowl being Batman but not when he's being all intimidating and growly dressed up as Batman? I think part of it is because I just can't take Dick!Batman's threats and everything seriously because I'm all, "Oh, it's Nightwing he wouldn't really drop the guy off the building..." which is definitely different from Bruce being scary and maybe slightly crazy.) /random

But... I like having one icon for one character? :3 *is needlessly fussy, obvs.*

I haven't yet, no. I'm aware that I suck. (I was trying to alternate between catching up on one DC title, then one Marvel title, then one DC title, etc.)

I can see where you're coming with that. I'm still kind of ALL DICK IS GOOD DICK :D so I don't mind Batman!Dick, because I'm always hopeful that we'll get some awesome character moments even in costume. I like him as a teacher to Damian and the car rides are always, always, always hilarious. I get the feeling that Dick is actually much more of a teacher here than Bruce ever was.

I also don't mind him being all growly and stuff, but that's more because I like seeing Dick have to find the line between coming across as genuinely scary without compromising the morals we know he has. Also, I just like seeing Dick fight. ♥

YOU ARE TOO FUSSY. JUST GET AN ICON AND THEN SWITCH IN ANOTHER ONE WHEN YOU GET TIRED OF IT OR FIND A BETTER ONE. D:<
