Drabble (Ficlet?) a Day #25-26

Apr 11, 2008 15:44

The usual warnings apply--this is fiction, I've never met them before, I have no connection--as well as it's mostly gen with my usual pairing biases at least a little bit present.

Sort of a continuation/prequel/whatever of the Nino/Jun - Death Note thing, but also it's sort of off doing it's own thing, too. (Also, yes, I still use "Raito". I read Death Note back when it was first first being scanslated and that's the name that imprinted itself on me. I know you all care very, very much.) Possibly still wip, possibly to stand on its own, either is possible.

Two days' worth again because it ran a little long.

drabble/ficlet #25-26:
Jun rather seriously started to suspect that this was one of the worst days of his working life.

It wasn't that he hadn't expected the grueling pace of filming a weekly drama along with the other regular idol job duties. He was used to the endless stream of interviews and photoshoots and memorizing lines and reshooting scenes that hadn't gone quite right at first and the frustrating down time between scenes that he wasn't in where he couldn't go anywhere or get anything done because they'd need him in an hour, but he had nothing specific to do for that hour and he had to keep himself busy.

He could deal with all of that.

He was used to all of that. It was routine, expected.

What was not expected was just how annoying Nino had gotten to be.

Jun tried to get along with all of his co-stars and had often found himself forming genuine friendships with them. But he'd never filmed a weekly drama with another member of Arashi, never had that instant connection with someone from his band from the moment he set foot onto the set like that. Even that might not have thrown him off quite so much if it hadn't been Ninomiya.

Nino, who liked to follow him practically everywhere because Nino got a little lonely when he was away from the rest of the group, Nino who (without any of his other usual people to annoy present) would hang off Jun's shoulder and deliberately not take a hint, Nino who would have already memorized his lines so he was bored and he'd already beaten the game that he'd brought along (which was a complete lie and Jun knew it, the little fucker), so he'd come sit over by Jun-kun and see what he was doing instead.

And sometimes Jun really wished he didn't love Nino as much as he did, because he knew most of it was from feeling lonely, so he acted like a little twerp to cover for it (and not-so-subtly getting more attention on himself) and Jun felt obligated to be nicer when he knew that.

Even if Nino was also annoying Jun because he was a little shit.

Photoshoots were one of the worst times with Nino because the photographers usually encouraged him to sit closer to Jun and it wasn't like Jun could reach over and hit Nino for draping an arm over his shoulder or deliberately whispering something to him that definitely did not make him shiver from the way Nino was blowing into his ear very much on purpose.

But this one was even worse than usual--they were recreating one of the famous scenes from the manga, where L and Raito had been handcuffed together with an all too short (for Jun's taste) length of chain. Nino kept creeping closer to him while they were posed on the deep red sofa, his jeans making soft russling noises against the plush red material and it had taken a lot more restraint than Jun would have liked not to whack Nino over the head with the dark black notebook with the words "Death Note" scribbled on it that they'd given him as a prop.

Also, every time the photographer made little shooing motions for Nino to scoot closer to him, Jun thought about winging the notebook directly at his face, but reminded himself strongly that that would have been bad publicity. Especially since there were at least three reporters in the room. (Even if they were just idol mags.)

"So," one of the bright-eyed, far too perky for this time of day, didn't any of them just want to go home already?, reporters said from just out of the camera's range, "how do you feel about working together on a project like this, the two of you from Arashi? Ninomiya-san has worked with Sakurai-san on a drama before, right? What about Matsumoto-san? And are there any plans for future projects together?"

Nino hunched up on the sofa with a thoughtful look on his face, his chin resting on his knees folded up against his chest and he bit at his thumb. It looked like he was just mimicing his character's posture--and Jun had a slightly stiffer pose, leaning just a little back against the sofa to give the impression of Yagami Raito's arrogance, his neatly ironed school uniform pants showing not a single wrinkle and the red tie and tan jacket neatly smoothed down, also seeming like he was just mimicing his character--but Jun could see the brief flash of annoyance in his eyes.

"Well, working with Sho-chan was fun," Nino started slowly, like he was really thinking about it, "and working with Jun-tan has been a lot of fun, too. I think it would be really fun for all five of us to work together, right? So, we're currently in talks to do a TV drama for Naruto, I think it would really broaden our horizons and let us reach a lot of new people. And it'd be really cool, right?"

The reporter turned to Jun with a curiously bright expression. "And Matsumoto-san?"

He smiled politely. "Well, I wouldn't mind," he lied, supressing a twitch when Nino leaned against his shoulder, tucking his chin against Jun's collarbone, "but that's a little far-fetched, right? I don't think it would be very easy to clear everyone's schedules for a project like that."

He could feel Nino's hand against his side and under the jacket, looping his fingers through the black belt around his waist, tugging just once at him. "But don't you think it would be fun to work together again, all of this time, Jun-bug?" The corners of Nino's mouth only lifted into a small fraction of a smile, but it was enough.

If Nino wanted to start shit, Jun could be a professional about it and beat the little fucker at his own game.
