Dear. lord! I just went on what probably numbers among the best times going running in my life. It started out normally, just going on one final run through the normal favorite woods-meadows path. Then it started to rain, which I was kind of expecting, and kind of excited for, because that means it's cooler, I don't feel so gross and covered with sweat, and it makes things more exciting. It started raining harder as I got out of the woods and into the meadow, and I began getting wet enough that I took my shirt off to wrap up my ipod, which I shouldn't have brought (but which still works!). This meadow is one of my favorite places in Tuebingen, because it's almost at the top of a hill (or small mountain?) and has a really beautiful view of other hills/small mountains covered with trees, and faces the sun in the evening/sunset. And even though it was raining, I could still see the sun shining very brightly, and it created this misty heavenly-ish sort of effect. And the raindrops were really big, and there was no one else there, and I was just really really happy running through. And then, as I was stopped and reflecting on my happiness about being there, I noticed a rainbow starting to form, which was really exciting. And as I stood and watched, it started raining harder, and the rainbow formed more, and eventually turned into a full-out half circle, WHICH I COULD SEE TOUCHING THE GROUND ON BOTH SIDES! AAHH WHAT! I never thought I would EVER see that! And I indeed ran toward the bottom of it, to see if maybe I could get the pot of gold or at least some skittles, but unfortunately it stayed the same distance away from me. So I pretty much just stood there for a while, wishing I was a unicorn and kind of feeling like one, what with the COMPLETE HALF CIRCLE RAINBOW and misty/fogginess and sun rays coming down all at once. It was so wonderful!
And then of course I started to get cold, standing there in the rain with no shirt on, so I started running again. And I ended up going a different direction than I usually do, because it was towards the sun, and then getting sort of lost (as in I only knew my general direction) on a path through these beautiful woods that I am SURE fairy-tales happened in (there were big trees covered with moss on the bottom, ravines with little streams running through them, trees bending over the path on both sides...oh man! It turned out to be a huge loop, which worked out nicely, and on the way back through the field I could see the same view of the mountains/hills/whatever you want to call them in the distance, and it had stopped raining by now, but there were basically CLOUDS in between these hills--like really thick, white mist. SO COOL! And the sun was setting so it was beautiful as usual, and there was a cloud over it, and you know in those really old jesus paintings how they have a sun behind clouds and then have like really defined rays pointing upward from it, like you-could-have-cut-them-out-of-construction-paper-because-they-are-so-defined sort of rays? Well, those were happening there, in real life.
So, it was a really tremendous time today. And when I got back around near my house, I looked to see how long I had been running for (including the like 5 minutes with the rainbow, and a few small breaks after huge hills, etc), and it was over an hour and 20 minutes, which is HUGE for me! I've only ever gone for like 50 minutes at the most before, and that happened on thursday. So basically, even though most of the day was pretty shit, what with all the packing and mostly all the avoiding-packing, it has completely redeemed itself. Time for a shower.
