My favorite student and her family are becoming friends of mine, and I adore them. This is how my work differs from therapy - the boundaries don't have to be quite as stringent.
I'm not getting married anytime in this decade*, even though my mother has offered me a WHOLE SET OF GERMAN KITCHEN KNIVES if I did (facepalm)
... but my student, C, who is circusy and punk rockish, oppositional defiant and hilarious, is concerned about what type of wedding I will have, because she wants to make sure she is in it. And then her mother offered, in all sincerity, to host my wedding at their house and cater it herself. I'm very moved! but not quite enough to get married.
The following dialogue made me happy:
*unless 8 goes away, then I recant that.
Me: Well, I don't really want a wedding. I don't really have fun at my family events. My extended family aren't people I want to see.
C: But I want to be a flower girl. Then I could throw flowers at them.
Me: You could ... I guess. But I dont want them at my wedding, if I ever have one.
C: Or maybe they shouldn't have flowers. I KNOW! I'll throw ... FORKS. I"LL THROW FORKS AT THEM.
Her enthusiasm was priceless.
