Never go to the grocery store at 5pm
I came home after work all grumpy yesterday for an unknown reason. Instead of moping about, off to the gym I went. Beautiful day out. So after riding my bike to the gym and back, excercising in the middle of course (though I did forget the ipod and that makes the gym much less interesting), I headed off to the grocery store. Big mistake. Safeway was full of mom's and their annoying children. It's not that I hate children, it's that I hate the parents who can't or won't control their children. Like the women whose child was making an annoying noise at the top of his little lungs over and over again. What was her response? Timmy, please stop that. You have 10 seconds to stop that or we're leaving right now. What an empty threat. The kid obviously was bored in the store, so leaving would be a reward to him and a punishment to mom who had a cart full of groceries. And why ask the kid to stop? Who is in charge here? Tell the damn kid to stop and tell the kid the consequences of not stopping, but make the consequences nasty for the kid. How about "If you don't stop that screaming, you won't get to eat any of the yummy food we'll be buying here tonight". Instead, give the kid his least favorite food, because the law says you have to feed your children. Also, the lady at the checkout line whose kid wanted the bag of cheetos. Did she just say no? No! She said "no, honey. well,hmmm, no, you really shouldn't, hhmmmm, welll . . . " this went on for like 5 full minutes with the kid whining the entire time. Kick me if I ever do that with my kids. I was all annoyed again by the time I got home. Nothing like snapping green beans and beating the daylights of of some filet mignon (I was making carpaccio) to let out some aggression. Brendan left the kitching quickly because I was ranting so much and I was alternatley holding a large knive and the marble rolling pin. He wisely went to the garage to open a bottle of wine. The rest of the evening was great. We ate dinner at our loverly new table, then watched the olympics. I love watching the olympics. The medals look like CD's though, hole in the middle and all!
