I know amazing people from the internet!

SO wendy is hosting a fandom appreciation week in which I have thus far failed to participate, but today is LOVE DAY, and I have LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE FOR FANDOM.

So, let me tell about a few amazing people I have met through fandom. There are TONS, but here is a sampling of, like, What Fandom Has Done For Me Lately.

So, first off, wendy SENT ME THE BEST CARE PACKAGE TODAY. I spent all day at work doing tedious data fixes, and when I got home there was a box waiting for me! Wendy and I were gchatting about Tazo Awake tea last week, and when I said I'd never had it, she said she'd send me some! Which was already super nice! But she did not mention that she was also sending me fake rockstar tattoos! And stickers! And pretty sticky notes! And FUN DIP, which was OMG a staple of my days at the community pool as a kid!! I have only met Wendy in person at Wincon, and we've only been LJ friends for six months, but we had a conversation about tea, and in response she sent me AMAZING STUFF. BECAUSE SHE IS THE SWEETEST EVER.

poor_choices let me sleep on her couch in January when I was visiting Boston. We had only met once (for the EPIC EVENING OF JAY'S SALOON), but she gave me her couch for a weekend! And even more than that, she met me at the airport so that I would not get lost on the bus! She took me to see a REAL LIVE WOLF! She put up with me mocking her for watching JONAS and then becoming increasingly fascinated by it myself! She gave me directions and googled stuff for me! She made me tea! And she did all this even though she wasn't feeling well. She was basically the best host I possibly could have asked for, all on the basis of fandom friendship. And that is amazing.

When I cut off three feet of my hair last month, sadcypress sent me the sweetest, most supportive emails, even though she had a thesis to write and plenty of other stuff going on. I don't know if I even told her how much that meant to me and how much it helped, just knowing that she cared about me and understood what I was feeling when I was freaking out over this thing that I thought was basically not worth freaking out about. THANK YOU, EMILY.

And finally, because I can't not, I've gotta say that meeting balefully was super important and good for my life, and that wouldn't have happened without fandom. I was totally intimidated by Lucy when we met at Wincon in 2008 because she was gorgeous and popular and wrote amazing porn, but becoming friends with her was one of the very best parts of the beginning of last year for me, and the fact that she's willing to date me even though I drop things and lose my sense of direction around her baffles and pleases me on a daily basis. She's an amazing human being and I'm so very glad that porn on the internet brought us together!

So, that is some of the awesomeness fandom has brought into my life. How about yours? :D

i like this girl, fandom, public, my f-list is amazing
