The Speakeasy blog at the Wall Street Journal has a
pretty good interview with the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender on the upcoming sequel Legend of Korra.
The thing I found most amusing about the interview was that, when asked about the travesty that was the recent Shyamalan movie, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko avoided it. They basically just said, "We had nothing to do with it, and we're really just focused on our new show now!" *snerk* Which really says quite a bit to me about how they really felt about that movie. They obviously can't say that it was awful, but if they thought Shyamalan did a good job, don't you think they'd say so?
As for the rest of it,
I love that when asked about having a female lead, they said: We just don’t subscribe to the conventional wisdom that you can’t have an action series led by a female character. It’s kinda nonsense to us.
\o/ Yay!
Also, I'm rather grimly amused that there is already apparently a shipwar going on after they said that Katara is the mother of the new character Tenzin, who is Aang's son. Apparently all the people who wanted Katara/Zuko are upset? *shrug* I'm so glad I'm not particularly interested in any ships for this show.
And this post finally convinced me to get an A:TLA icon. *pets Aang & Zuko*
