Not on, Google; and more fun fannish topics

Jul 24, 2011 20:52

Am seriously considering deleting my Google+ account especially after seeing this. Although my G+ does not use the Gmail address where most of my fannish life resides, I worry that they might track back to that account and delete my several thousand emails and all my contacts, and then where would I be? I know others have bailed already, but I keep getting just to the point of downgrading and not quite being able to click the button. I suppose it's the eternal optimist in me that hopes that they'll catch a clue sooner rather than later. *sigh*

ETA: Never mind, just deleted it, after I saw a comment in another post that they were also shutting down accounts connected via multiple sign-on, and that put paid to it for me. I'll go back if they fix this, but unless that happens, no way.

In happier news, there are two trailers out that look awesome.

1) The Legend of Korra, which, for those who don't know, is the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. It comes out next year sometime and looks AMAZING.

2) Doctor Who Fall 2011 Trailer - also looks AMAZING, and per BBC America, they're going to start airing it on August 27! I thought for sure it wouldn't be until it was actually fall, like in October sometime.

Also, I saw Captain America: The First Avenger on Friday. My non-spoilery reaction is that I liked it a lot, but still think that Thor and X-Men: First Class are better. Oh, and while I'm outside the cut, if you decide to go, hang out to the very end of the credits. There's a teaser trailer for The Avengers there, which basically makes me want to see that movie 5 minutes ago.

Chris Evans was surprisingly awesome in this. Pretty much everything I've seen him in has had him be the snarky hotshot dude. This... well, he did have some snark, but mostly I just really believed in him as a true, gentle, serious hero. (Superman-like, which is a major plus in my book as I've always loved Superman.) I also really liked Stanley Tucci as mentor/scientist guy, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky (although I suspect I was helped there by not really knowing comic Bucky, as someone who was familiar didn't seem to appreciate him as much). Dominic Cooper also did a rather good job of making it obvious he's Tony Stark's father without being an RDJ copycat. I did think that there was rather too much action and and not enough of the characters. I mean, I know that's always the case with these sorts of films and I'm used to it, but the action felt a little over the top in this one, somehow, compared to the above-mentioned Marvel movies.

I haven't talked too much about the new series of Torchwood, but I am enjoying it quite a bit and am very curious to see where they're going.

And now to go catch up on Leverage.
