People are always saying to me, "Imagine if xyz happened to you/someone said xyz to you/someone did xyz to you - you'd act just like I'm acting."
This is the ultimate unanswerable attack. If I say no, I wouldn't, I'd act in this other way, people inevitably tell me I'm wrong, I'm making it up to make myself look good, whatever. This happens to me not infrequently. But the fact is...I wouldn't lie about this just to sound good. Well, maybe in some case, though nothing springs to mind, I might. I can't say never. But in every case I can think of, I usually *would* act differently. Because shock of shocks, I am different than most people. I process offenses quickly, and usually as shames to myself, I get over grudges in a week or two at most, I (as of graduation-ish) try to think from the other side and generally put shit behind me quickly, or break off the relationship. One or the other, never an agonizing and backstabbing dither between the two. Never. I have never done that. I'm confident in this statement. I get angry, for sure. I bitch, for sure. But it passes like a spring storm, quickly and with little evidence. I'm not saying I can always do these things, but when it comes to forgiving trespasses, as the prayer says, I don't think I'm flattering myself to say it's one of my virtues.
Or vices, perhaps, considering how people seem to be lately. Whatever. My point is, don't ask me to imagine how I'd act in order to shore up your point against me. Because odds are good, I'd honestly have moved on by now.
