Ahhhhh...Thursday...that means one more day until the end of the week. Don't get me wrong, I am SOOOOO happy that I have a job right now, but damn I'm getting worn out! It has only been three days!! (barely - Tuesday was a half day and Wednesday started off with a 2 hour delay.) Lets play catch up!

Tuesday - First day on the job!!! I was so excited. I got there nice and early, all prepared to start my first day!!! First things first - one of my homeroom students brought a hair straightener to school and was getting her hair on in front of the class. BAD. That had to be stopped. THEN, there were three consecutive fire drills. Thats right - on TUesday when it was pouring rain. NICE. The day was a blur. Everything was SOOOO confusing. New teacher, new school, new system, new students, new new new!!!! It took me 2 hours to get home through the snow. There were sooooo many accidents! Even one of the buses got in an accident in Est Hampton on the way home!

Wednesday - also a blur. I started getting better with the schedule. The kids started testing limits with me. How many people could go to the bathroom, how loud could they get during study hall, what could they get away with! One kid actually asked me if I knew what I was doing in the classroom...basically, he was unsure of my academic standing because I had them reading an article in writing class. Ummmmm. yeah. The article was a source of information so that they could pick a side and debate an issue in essay form. So I started to tell him this, and then was like - why am I even trying to defend myself to an 8th grader?? Lol.

Also on Wednesday, I had a girl who left homeroom screaming that she hates change and refuses to have me in the same room with her. Hormones? I think not. I think she needs a big dose of shut-it-down. She ran away from me and wouldn't respond to anything I said. Then she ran around the hallway until another teacher made her come back into the room. Nice. I looked like I had everything under control at that moment...

Lets see....that takes us to today. The staff has now seen my face, and they are done being overly friendly to the newby. I spent over 60 dollars buying supplies for the classroom, becuase the teacher before me took EVERYTHING out of the room. When I say everything, I mean that there was not a paper clip, pencil shaving, or paper to be seen. I ordered as much as I could, and then went to see my best friends - Walmart and Staples.

The students really started pushing me around today. I have to implement a daily routine so that they can get back in the swing of things. They dont want to work anymore because their original teacher left, they sub for a week and a half left, and now - just when they are feeling good about getting away with murder for the past week, its my job to be the enforcer. I truly believe that some of them hate me. C'est la vie darlings!

I know I'm bitching like a tubby brat with a skinned knee. The truth is - I love that I have a job, and I really like the challenge. My brain has been in sleep mode, so I feel sharper just after three days of this. I can't wait until this testing period is over though, I have to say that!

The moments that makes all this worth it???
*Today during homeroom, I was at my desk and a whole bunch of girls came up and just stood there staring at me smiling. I didn't get it for a minute, but then I realized that they were fidgiting and waiting for me to say something. The floodgates were open, and they didnt stop talking until they left!

*One boy keeps coming up and wanting to read his writing. He is soooo excited about his papers, and he wants everyone to hear what he has to say. He wants to be a journalist when he grows up. Cutie!

Ahhh, time for some correcting and some organizing!
