[Editted] My Favorite X-Characters

Inspired by fleta asking me if I like Wolverine. I read Marvel's X-Books for 15 years. The first book I bought was New Mutants #37. The Beyonder wiped the whole team out of existence as if they'd never been, or nearly. Kitty inherited Illyana's soulsword and remembered, but Peter couldn't remember his little sister. Just recently I went ( Read more... )

"I used to love him. Kinda outgrew that some, but he's still cute."

Somebody at Wizard, at one point when there were dreams of an X-movie before one was close to materializing, suggested... *shudders remembering* ...Richard Gere for Magneto. I probably could spend a lot of time shopping for "The Right Guy" to play Mags, but I like young Rutger for younger Magneto, and I like Ian for older Magneto.

"Might be just that I'm confused about what/who he is... too many changes to him and no continuity."

Heh, in my 18 years of reading American superhero books, I read DC before I read Marvel, they've always seemed to have thin and easily rewritten continuity. Of course you also have to be capable of wrapping your mind around multiple time-lines. I love Magneto from a particular period in Marvel's base time-line, and I love him from the alternate time-line referred to as the Age of Apocalypse. The icon I'm using is base time-line, but the other one I made is from the AoA alternate time-line.

"Like with Cole, bad writers with no continuity can ruin things no matter how good a person is."

*Nods.* As I understand it, the base time-line Magneto I love was written by Chris Claremont. When the editor Bob Harras took over he started pushing Chris to make Mags revert to being a bad guy, and once Chris left Hardass, er, Harras got writers who thoroughly demolished what Chris had done with Magneto. The Mags I loved stepped in to lead the X-Men when Charles Xavier was dying. Michael Xavier is the alias Charles set up for him, the one that made Mags his brother. Magneto might not have been a half-demon, but he was very gray, very torn between his villain past, and the hero he wanted to be. I adored him then, and I still adore him now. *Blushes.* I've got to post those panels.
