The Good, The Bad, and the Better Late Than Never

I have loved the Doodle Champion Island Games. It is so lovingly styled like a number of my favorite 16-bit games. I managed to get the scroll for 6 out of 7 of the mini-games. I had zero luck at Artistic Swimming. Frankly surprised I managed Rock Climbing. I was so good at falling off the Q-Bert pyramid as a kid that friends and family took ( Read more... )

Aww! I really liked Bow -- he was my favorite in the early seasons, and is still one of my favorites overall...

Yay! Because the updating worked so well, he's just as much my favorite in the reboot as the original.

...I just felt like there wasn't much for him to do in the last couple of seasons...

I was all right with his having more of a supporting role in the later seasons because that was all he ever had in the original series. He's more central in the reboot.

Yeah -- I thought he was headed for some sort of redemptive sacrifice for Entrapta's sake...

That's exactly what I was afraid of!

I do think he gets a proper name after the show ends.

Thanks!

...Sea Hawk on his own is rather too much for my taste...

I didn't care for his reboot as much as Bow's, but I did appreciate that they let him be crazy about Mermista rather than Adora. I mean in the original series Bow and Sea Hawk basically existed for two reasons -- to add some male characters to the cast, and have a crush on/be in love with She Ra/Adora. Bow had a crush on She Ra and Sea Hawk was Adora's boyfriend with no clue about her also being She Ra. The reboot might not increase the number of male characters, but it at least lets Bow and Sea Hawk care about other people than She Ra/Adora.

...but I ended up kind of rooting for these crazy kids XD

Yeah, they weren't my favorite 'ship, but they worked.

I was curious about the He-Man reboot, actually... So, disappointing to hear it did not work for you.

Without getting too spoilery, the first five episodes end on a cliffhanger, and how it gets resolved in the remaining episodes that haven't been dropped yet may mollify me some. I don't imagine they'll fix everything, but they could fix some things.

I'm waiting to hear some more reviews to triangulate whether or not I want to actually give it a shot...

I understand. I'd keep an eye on a) how familiar a given reviewer is with the original series, and b) what if any feelings they have about it. I didn't see until after I'd watched the episodes that have been dropped so far that Kevin Smith has said he "almost hate-watched" the original series. If I had seen it, I probably wouldn't have bothered to give the series a try.
