School, Movies, and Icons

First, school started back up for me this week. I'm taking three classes this semester, two on campus, and one online. Well, they all have an online component, and one of the on campus ones is actually a compressed video course being streamed in from the school's other campus. I need to pass two of them with a C or better for my degree program ( Read more... )

...there was one shot of that swimming pool scene in Casablanca, that annoyed the hell out of me.

Ah. It probably didn't even register with me, since it was just one shot, and I'm used to how Hollywood treats the female form.

I'm pretty sure now that that was a conscious marketing decision...

I'm pretty sure you're right. I thought it was interesting that they took the marketing approach of making her look like a typical love interest while hinting at her being more complicated than that in interviews about the movie.

As was the equality in showing skin between Cruise and Ferguson, yes.

Heh. Call me shallow, but I like it when I get to see topless guys. Not to mention when someone like Tom Cruise or Chris Pratt makes it clear that they enjoy being part of female fantasies. I will enjoy for sometime how much Chris talked enthusiastically about getting objectified.

...the huge discussion JW brought up afterwards in the media surprised me a bit TBH. *shrugs*

I was glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was annoyed as Hell by the idea of the female lead wearing heels through the whole movie. Still makes me mad. It helps thinking of Black Widow and Ilsa Faust doing some of their fighting bare foot.

...I really liked how both Ilsa and Ethan have important parts in the action scenes.

I really loved how the fight choreography in a couple of the scenes had Ilsa and Ethan work so closely together that they seemed like they were floating through the sequence together. I particularly liked the touch of Ethan feeling the need to ask her at one point for assurance they hadn't met before.

Minions is just super cute and fun...

So. Very. I had a blast collecting all the Minions toys that were available in Happy Meals this summer.

Luckily, there weren't many of those moments.

*Nods.* When I saw it the second time I just covered my eyes during them like I would a scary horror scene, or like I did for the scenes that made me really uncomfortable in A:AoU.

Well, we're all a bit shallow when it comes to that. *g* Nicely shown naked skin is often appreciated but it should be equally "distributed". And with men like Cruise or Pratt actually speaking out about it it might finally make a little bit of difference in Hollywood.

And yeah, that was also nice about the action scenes. There have been some really good action movies this year that also use women as full characters and not just eye candy - and they were successful. *crosses fingers for the future*

Yeah, I'm so pleased that Chris Pratt seems to really be enjoying the difference in the way women view him since he got into "super hero" shape for GotG. I'd feel sort of guilty if he seemed uncomfortable with it. Not sure I'd be able to stop, but I would definitely feel guilty about.

...and they were successful.

That is so important in Hollywood. That's why there's the old saying, "Nothing succeeds like success."
