First, school started back up for me this week. I'm taking three classes this semester, two on campus, and one online. Well, they all have an online component, and one of the on campus ones is actually a compressed video course being streamed in from the school's other campus. I need to pass two of them with a C or better for my degree program

Thanks! All good luck is appreciated.
...it had that gratuitous bikini shot of Rebecca Ferguson in the trailer, but that wasn't in the movie anymore...
I'm not sure what you're referring to. I mean Ilsa was in a bikini in the movie when Ethan and Benji arrived at her place in Casablanca. Her coming up out of the pool in it the way she did might have been showing off her figure, but she had been in the pool working on trying to hold her breath for 3 minutes. It wasn't strictly about getting her in a bikini. I didn't mind the amount of time they had Ferguson show skin, both because it was reasonable within context, and because they included multiple scenes that had Cruise show skin.
...she came across as a really cool and real character.
I couldn't help thinking how much I liked Ilsa being careful to take her high heels off, or ask Ethan to take them off for her, when you and I have discussed how much JW's expecting me to believe its female lead wore her heels through the whole movie was unrealistic to me. I think a number of people who have spoken of Ferguson as being a scene stealer in MI:RN are people who simply aren't used to seeing a female lead being allowed to match the male lead the way Ilsa is allowed to match Ethan. She doesn't do more than him, but she does as much, including having that big one on one face off with the Bone Doctor that in some other movie Ethan would've had.
Thoroughly enjoyable movie.
I would definitely say it was the best action movie I saw this summer. I rank it below Minions because sometimes the action in MI:RN was too immersive for me. I didn't cope well with the first person shots from the motorcycles for example. Minions made me feel good from beginning to end. I was never uncomfortable with any part of the film.

And I was really glad that it wasn't in the movie - we get that almost wide shot of her from the front that doesn't sexualise her at all and we also get a reason for her being in the swimming pool. That was actually a very nice surprise. *g*
As was the equality in showing skin between Cruise and Ferguson, yes.
Heh, the dreaded high heels discussion. XD Yeah, I remember Ilsa taking off her shoes in the beginning, and then later when they're on the roof. I didn't think much of it - but I also didn't think much of it in JW, the huge discussion JW brought up afterwards in the media surprised me a bit TBH. *shrugs* But overall MI is more rooted in reality anyway, and I really liked how both Ilsa and Ethan have important parts in the action scenes. But sadly it's still true that this kind of equality isn't often seen in your average action blockbuster, so I guess for the average audience this is still very "new". But I guess we're on y good way to change this.
Minions is just super cute and fun, I enjoyed that quite a lot as well. And yeah, I can understand how some camera choices in MI could be uncomfortable for some. Luckily, there weren't many of those moments.

Ah. It probably didn't even register with me, since it was just one shot, and I'm used to how Hollywood treats the female form.
I'm pretty sure now that that was a conscious marketing decision...
I'm pretty sure you're right. I thought it was interesting that they took the marketing approach of making her look like a typical love interest while hinting at her being more complicated than that in interviews about the movie.

Heh. Call me shallow, but I like it when I get to see topless guys. Not to mention when someone like Tom Cruise or Chris Pratt makes it clear that they enjoy being part of female fantasies. I will enjoy for sometime how much Chris talked enthusiastically about getting objectified.

I was glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was annoyed as Hell by the idea of the female lead wearing heels through the whole movie. Still makes me mad. It helps thinking of Black Widow and Ilsa Faust doing some of their fighting bare foot.
...I really liked how both Ilsa and Ethan have important parts in the action scenes.
I really loved how the fight choreography in a couple of the scenes had Ilsa and Ethan work so closely together that they seemed like they were floating through the sequence together. I particularly liked the touch of Ethan feeling the need to ask her at one point for assurance they hadn't met before.

So. Very. I had a blast collecting all the Minions toys that were available in Happy Meals this summer.
Luckily, there weren't many of those moments.
*Nods.* When I saw it the second time I just covered my eyes during them like I would a scary horror scene, or like I did for the scenes that made me really uncomfortable in A:AoU.

Well, we're all a bit shallow when it comes to that. *g* Nicely shown naked skin is often appreciated but it should be equally "distributed". And with men like Cruise or Pratt actually speaking out about it it might finally make a little bit of difference in Hollywood.
And yeah, that was also nice about the action scenes. There have been some really good action movies this year that also use women as full characters and not just eye candy - and they were successful. *crosses fingers for the future*

Yeah, I'm so pleased that Chris Pratt seems to really be enjoying the difference in the way women view him since he got into "super hero" shape for GotG. I'd feel sort of guilty if he seemed uncomfortable with it. Not sure I'd be able to stop, but I would definitely feel guilty about.
...and they were successful.
That is so important in Hollywood. That's why there's the old saying, "Nothing succeeds like success."
