Maine was wonderful. We spent most of Saturday kayaking in an estuary/marsh area and while doing so we saw a seal and a bald eagle. Denise and Patrick survived their first kayaking experience without tipping. No lobster (Michael's friend's lobster boat is in for repairs...) but I did have an excellent Baked Haddock sandwich and Nathan had a good burger.
It was just good to hang out with my brothers since we hadn't really done that in quite a while. It was also good to get to know Michael's girlfriend, Denise, who is very nice and can put up with my brother.
We survived two nights with their psycho cat, Fenway. He was the cutest cat with the most beautiful markings ever, but trust me he is psycho. They say he has play aggression- he likes to hiss at things and show his teeth and try and attack toes. He is also excellent at opening doors and cabinets and hiding in showers.
On our way home we went to Freeport and exchanged our raincoats with broken zippers for a gift card which we then used to order Keen's for Nate and a new raincoat for me, and we have $21 left on the card. We didn't do any walking around Freeport to the shops because we wanted to get home before it was dark (had to wash down kayaks, etc) and because the streets were way too packed with tourists. We did stop at the NH state liqour store and picked up two bottles of Riesling, Starbucks Cream Liqour and a few other things.
All that and we got home with enough light to wash down the kayaks put them away in the barn, and have some dinner outside with Nate's family.
All in all, a nice weekend away.
