...'cause i wasn't. went home for lunch today for cat-tending what-not, and there was a message on my voice mail from the garden city library. apparently the wee public scene i made touched off a maelstrom of activity & conversations in their staff and apparently, i ended up as a case study on the library director's desk. and guess what? they've changed the policy. now you *can* replace lost items with a brand new one and only owe the $5 processing fee. apparently the staff is all thrilled about it, as they have wanted this for a long time, but it took someone making a fuss to get the library director to listen to them. on the one hand, it's kind of a little embarrassing, and on the other hand, yay, me! i made life better for all 27 people who use the garden city library. they're holding $15 in my name behind the circ desk, which i am very likely to never claim, but it's the principle of the thing that matters here. so i drove back to work after picking up 'crack-to-go' trying to focus on my mini norma rae moment and the perfect 82-and-not-a-cloud-in-the-sky weather and NOT on the fact that tomorrow is roger's last day at HP or that the number of people i know here will be spiralling down to exactly NONE in the next 4 weeks.
