Well I have got to say that I had a bloody marvellous time (despite your lack of suggestions people) in the capital. I am sure you are all desperate to hear what I got up to so here goes........
Friday - We arrived in London around 2pm and checked into the hotel which wasnt exactly the Hilton but it was cheap and clean and thats all that matters. Also it was really close to Euston Station which was ideal for all the tube travelling we were going to do. We headed straight for the nearest pub for a few pints before heading to the Royal Albert Hall for the gig. The RAH itself is a lovely building, especially when it is lit up at night.
.
The gig itself was amazing! The venue added to the music, making the songs sounds even more haunting and dark. The contrast between the grandeur of the place and the menacing qualities of the music just made it all the better. The sound was fucking unbelievable, it was so loud that I thought my ears were going to bleed, and the massive amounts of strobe lighting (good job I am not epileptic ppl or I would be dead right now) made for a really exciting gig.
After the gig on Friday night we headed into Camden for a few drinks and then back to the hotel for some well deserved sleep.
Saturday - We got up relatively early and headed out to find somewhere to get a cooked breakfast to mop up the booze from the night before, then went back to camden so that I could go to Camden Market. I bought a new jacket and various other things that I couldnt really afford, but hey it was Camden Market, I had to buy something! The we began our day of culture. We had decided to use the day to go the both Tate Galleries. We started by going to the Tate Britain, which had some stunning paintings in it and a rather large collection of works by Turner. I was blown away by some of the pieces and loved how chilled out the whole experience was and the gallery itself was stunning.
Then we got the Tate to Tate boat along the Thames to go the the Tate Modern. The Boat went past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben so it was a really nice trip and a snip at £2.
.
The Tate Modern is in the old Battersea Power Station and was fab. I wont go into too much detail here as I saw loads of stuff that I loved but unfortunately you were not allowed to take pictures. Now I knew this but tried to take some sneaky ones, however I am a bit of an idiot and forgot to turn the flash off which meant I got promptly caught and told off by a very stern man! After this we went for a quick pint and the walked over the Millenium Bridge while the sun was going down, stunning!
We then had some food and headed out to Covent Garden for a few beers. Unfortunately we didnt realise that everywhere around there closes at 12 and we had not had nearly enough to drink. We treid to find somewhere to go but the only option seemed to be to pay silly money to go to a club that we might not like. Eventually I had the bright idea of going to a fancy pant hotel and pretending we were residents to take advantage for the residents bar (open all night). We found the Thistle Hotel near Charing Cross and managed to blag our way in there only to oder 2 vodkas and coke and get charges £15.10! Horrified is not the word.
Despite this finacial setback we stayed there til around 3am acting silly and having a laugh. Then we went to Trafagar Square so that I could climb onto one of the Lions for a photo oppertunity. Again this did not go well as I was far too drunk to be climbing lions so gave in and had my pic taken standing next to it instead. I look far to drunk in the pic to put it here.
Sunday - After all the hilarity and not getting to bed til 5am I spent most of Sunday chilling. Met my mate Simon for a few beers in the afternoon but then went back to the hotel and got a bath and went to bed so that I would be fresh for the journey home.
So thats it really, I had a great time and really enjoyed Alans company. Back to reality and uni this week which is a bit poor but never mind, the summer had to end eventually I guess but what a good way to end it!
