☣ Character
Character Name: Dug
Character Age: Unknown (though somewhere between 1 and 4, I estimate), but he looks like he's around 18 in his human body.
Canon + Format: Disney Pixar's Up, which is a Movie.
Background: Since it's not said where Muntz gets his dogs, I'll be going off of head-canon for a bit.
From time to time, when Charles Muntz's dogs get old or die, he gets a bunch of new puppies, usually from specific breeds and pedigrees. It's not certain how this happened, but a golden retriever puppy accidentally got purchased with one of Muntz's sets of dogs. Muntz hadn't anticipated this dog, so he had no set positions for it to fill. Because of this, the puppy eventually was usually sent along whenever a group needed an extra person. Unfortunately, this caused the puppy to not be properly trained in anything other than the basics of everything, and ended up getting in the way most of the time. He can do lots, but he can't do it very well. At all. This puppy was named Dug.
On one of Dug's birthdays, he's off of the airship and seems to be slacking off, or simply just enjoying himself. He is sniffing a flower, when suddenly, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, -- three members of his pack -- run by to try to capture the bird that Charles Muntz is so intent on capturing. The bird leaps over Dug, causing Alpha and co. to crash into him.
It's then revealed that Dug has made a birthday wish, but what that wish was is not clear. The other dogs berate Dug for "always getting in the way" and for stopping them from catching the bird. Excitedly, Dug offers his help to capture the bird, but only causes the other dogs to laugh. However, Alpha then realizes that he can possibly get Dug out of his hair for the remainder of the day.
Alpha instructs Dug to watch a very large rock and tell him if it moves. When asked by Dug why, he claims, "it is the bird's favourite rock." After Alpha and co. run off to try to find the bird again, Dug accidentally knocks down a pebble, which then hits the rock, and causes it roll down to where Alpha was, nearly crushing him. Dug then calls to Alpha that the rock moved.
Angrily, Alpha then tells Dug to sit in a hole, because, "it is the bird's favourite hole." Obediently, Dug sits and waits while the other dogs go to search for the bird. Oddly enough, the hole is a tunnel that is full of sand, which slowly begins to leak out and causes Dug to fall out of the other end -- right on top of Alpha and his cohorts.
Dug is then instructed to sit on a rock. The rock he jumps off of is poorly balanced, and causes Alpha and his cohorts to fall.
More mishaps continue where Dug accidentally sets off various traps, such as a hidden net and various tranquilizers being fired.
In one final act of failure, Dug runs across rocks with Alpha and the others right behind him, unfortunately causing the rocks to collapse. Alpha falls with one of the rocks, then exclaims that he "is hurting." Angrily, he calls Muntz through the radio and states that Dug has caused them to not capture the bird, and that he is a "bad dog."
Dug, fearing punishment and feeling upset for letting Alpha and the others down, runs away, also being saddened that "this has been a bad birthday." After some distance, he notices various-shaped rocks, one of which looks like a man. To his surprise, it is a man. It's Carl Fredricksen and Russel, who he calls out to and asks if he's okay. Dug is now very happy, and realizes that he did get his wish: a new master.
Happily, Dug runs over and begins to be friendly with Russel. Russel starts to tell Dug various tricks, all of which Dug performs, including speaking. His ability to speak surprises Russel and Carl. Happily, he jumps on Carl and states, "I have just met you and I love you." He goes on to explain that his old master (Muntz) made the collar so he could speak. After some explanation and asking about "the bird," he is jumped on by the very same bird, then asks Carl if he can take it prisoner. Irritated, Carl grants permission, only caring about reaching the falls. Obviously having no way to take Kevin the bird back to Muntz, Dug simply follows Carl, Russel, and Kevin, now part of the group with the flying house.
Meanwhile, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma are trying to track down the bird. After some talk about how they won't get a treat due to letting Dug go on his own, Alpha decides to call Dug to see how he is. Dug responds happily with the information that he has the bird. A camera in the collar also records an image of Kevin and an image of Russel before he hangs up. Alpha and the others then start tracking down Dug.
Back with Carl and the others, Dug is clinging to Kevin and begging for her to be his prisoner. Russel insists that Dug stop bothering Kevin, but Dug is loyal to Carl's decision because "he loves him like he loves his master." Russel, Kevin, and Dug then start to bicker, which causes Carl to lose his patience and accidentally crashes the house into a cliff, breaking a window. Angrily, he tells Kevin and Dug to leave, then tries to trick them both with chocolate and a tennis ball respectively.
Dug eventually catches up with Carl and Russel, much to Carl's dismay. It rains that night. In the morning, Kevin eats most of Carl's food, which Dug explains to Carl and Russel that she's gathering food for her babies. Kevin runs off to feed her babies, but in actuality, hides on the roof.
Almost immediately after, Alpha and his cohorts ambush Carl, Russel, and Dug. Even though they've lost Kevin, Alpha demands that Carl and Russel come with them to Muntz's camp. After some threatening, they agree to come. Dug, meanwhile, is following behind, ashamed that he let his new friends potentially be injured.
Carl meets with Muntz, the two realize that it was just a misunderstanding, and Carl and Russel are invited into Muntz's airship for dinner. Dug is told to remain behind and is put in the "Cone of Shame," which is actually just an Elizabethan collar, but it symbolizes the ultimate shaming.
Unknown to Dug, Carl and Russel accidentally reveal that they have Kevin, and end up having to flee Muntz's wrath. Dug instructs Carl and Russel where to go and assists them in their escape by blocking half of the tunnel's exit and attempting to stop the dogs. Alpha attempts to throw Dug off a cliff, however. Nonetheless, Dug, Carl, Russel, and Kevin all escape across a canyon, though with injuries. By now, Dug has given up any remaining loyalty to Muntz.
Kevin's hurt badly enough that it prevents her from walking. Upset, Russel pleads with Carl to help take her to her babies. After some moral dilemma, he agrees.
Meanwhile, Alpha and the others report back to Muntz. Muntz is furious that they escaped, but realizes that he can use Dug's collar to his advantage, as it has a tracking device.
After a short trip to the entrance to Kevin's home, Carl and Russel attempt to help Kevin go home. Unfortunately, Muntz shows up and ensnares Kevin in a net, then tries to burn down Carl's house. Carl chooses to save his house instead.
Then Kevin is captured and the fire is put out, Russel is in disbelief that Carl "just gave her away." Carl explodes with anger, claiming that it's none of his concern. Dug tries to console Carl, but is refused with an angry, "I am not your master, and if you'd never shown up, this would have never happened. Bad dog, bad dog!" Dug seems very upset by this, and sadly walks away into the darkness. Still furious, Carl continues on his way to Paradise Falls.
Once there, Carl goes into his home and reads the "Adventure Book" that he and his wife loved dearly. Inside, he finds a message left by her. "Thanks for the adventure - Now go have a new one!" He then realizes that he's been too obssessed with the house and foolishly ignoring the people around him.
Carl's inspired to apologize to Russel, but Russel's already started to leave with a bundle of balloons and a leafblower, claiming that he'll save Kevin himself.
It's obvious that Russel will get hurt, so Carl tries to get the house airborne, but fails, as it is too heavy. Realizing that there's too much weighing it down, he empties the house of all its contents and flies off after Russel.
Shortly after take-off, there's a knock on his door. Dug, this whole time, had been waiting under Carl's porch because he loves him. Happily, Carl reclaims his title of 'master' and continues on his way to the airship.
Once there, they narrowly save Russel from falling out, but then leave him behind in the house because they want him to be safe. With Dug's assistance, Carl finds a way to sneak in to the room that Kevin is held in. With Dug's help again, Carl tricks the dogs into leaving the room, then begins to sneak out.
Unfortunately, Muntz is informed of their escape attempt, and tries to kill Carl to get Kevin back. Dug intervenes with a bite to Muntz's leg, but is thrown into the room with the dogs. Dug is chased by Alpha and other dogs all the way to the cockpit, where Alpha repeatedly tries to attack Dug. In a desperate attempt to stop Alpha's bites, Dug puts what appears to be part of a vent on to Alpha's neck. To the other dogs, it appears to be the Cone of Shame. Dug tells Alpha to sit, and all the other dogs do as well, calling Dug 'Alpha.' Dug is at first surprised by this, but he then realizes that he is the new Alpha dog.
Carl's fight with Muntz lead them, as well as Kevin, to the outside top of the airship, where Russel has steered the house towards the top of the airship to pick up Carl, Kevin, and Dug. Dug pops up through an emergency exit, reuniting with the trio. They're about to lift off from the airship when Muntz crawls out of another emergency exit with a gun, who then shoots down a large majority of balloons, causing it to slip. Carl falls off the house, leaving Kevin, Dug, and Russel stuck inside.
Maddened, Muntz climbs into the house, and attempts to shoot Kevin, not caring if Russel or Dug get in the way. Fortunately, Carl thinks quickly on his feet and lures Kevin, with Dug and Russel in tow, out of the house, which drifts away, but not before Muntz jumps out and falls to his death.
Happily, they take Kevin home, then return back to America, where Russel graduates to Senior Wilderness Explorer. After that, Dug, Carl, and Russel all go to Fenton's for ice cream.
Canon Point: When Russel, Carl, and Dug are watching cars while eating ice cream
Personality: Dug, to put it simply, is very simple. That isn't to say he's stupid, but he's most definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. When compared to the other dogs owned by Muntz, he sticks out like a sore thumb. He's not as strong, fast, intelligent, or cunning, but what he does have is a big heart. He tries his very best at whatever he can, and will follow commands to the best ability. Which, unfortunately, doesn't always go properly. For example, he was told to watch a rock and report to his superiors if it moved. The rock did, in fact, move, and nearly crushes his superiors. Dug merely looks over the edge and reports that the rock moved.
Despite being cheerful and happy for the majority of the time, Dug is aware that his pack does not like him. When Dug finally does his get his hands on the bird that he is required to get, he relays the message to his pack with the claim, "I will bring it back and then you will like me." However, despite his pack not liking him, he doesn't seem to dislike them, rather trying to be a friend to them.
Although he can communicate through his collar like a human, he is still a dog. He likes to chase tennis balls, he sniffs things, he likes to be pet, and loves to chase squirrels.
Dug is unsurprisingly loyal for a dog, but he is suprisingly kind-hearted for a talking dog. As said before, he doesn't hate his pack despite their constant rejection of him. While trying to capture Kevin the bird, he doesn't try to force her to come with him, but instead asks permission. His kindness and loyalty are shown by his dedication to Carl and Russel by the end of the movie, where he stays behind with Carl.
Due to being one of Muntz's trained special dogs, he's a decent tracker (despite him saying that he is a great tracker), he responds to commands like 'sit,' 'speak,' 'shake,' and all that jazz. Even though he's a little out of shape, he's still quite fast and durable. Not as durable as other people or dogs, but still able to take a bit of damage.
Since Dug is a simple person, he has simple fears and simple things he likes. He likes people, whoever his master is, being pet, and all other things a dog would like. But what he fears most seems to be rejection. Rejection by his master, rejection by his pack, and rejection by people he likes.
Oddly, he seems to have an awfully good moral compass for a dog. What's meant by that is his ability to judge if someone is bad or not. Of course, most human people can do that, but Dug has shown that trait. For example, on his birthday, he wishes to find a new master. It's not specified that it's because he doesn't like Muntz or agree with his methods, but it's implied, since he starts to become sad and worried over being punished. This is partially due to him being a dog, but also because it seems that Muntz might not have been the best master to Dug.
Appearance: Dug looks like
this. He wears a jacket with a fuzz-covered hood, khaki pants, and a cream-coloured dress shirt with brown buttons. He has a collar around his neck which translates thought to speech. He's roughly 5'1". His hair is dirty blonde and his eyes are brown.
Abilities: On the subject of powers and abilities (or lack thereof), Dug isn't all that special. He can smell things from farther away, he can hear better than the average human, he can see better than the average human, but he's red-green colourblind (deuteranopia). He's also semi-mute. The collar he wears allows him to speak through thought. However, the collar's translation is imperfect, and can make sentences longer than needed. If this collar is removed, then he loses the ability to speak. His vocal chords work perfectly fine, but he cannot make sounds other than very basic vowels while sounding gurgle-y.
Items/Weapons: The collar he wears allows him to speak through thought. However, the collar's translation is imperfect, and can make sentences longer than needed. If this collar is removed, then he loses the ability to speak. His vocal chords work perfectly fine, but he cannot make sounds other than very basic vowels while sounding gurgle-y. He needs to learn to speak.

...Hello there! My name is Dug. I am very confused. That man who told me how to use this machine was not very clear, so I do not know how I am using this.
Oh, and that man also did not tell me why I am a man. I am not a man, I am a dog!
[[he frowns a little, still looking quite confused, but it seems that an idea has struck him causing him to smile]]
Has anyone seen a small mailman that smells like chocolate? Or maybe you have seen a man who smells like prunes and denture cream? He is my master. Oh, maybe there are other dogs here, too! Are there?

Third Person Sample:
The sun was setting in the horizon, lighting up Dug's world with many hues. But being colourblind, he missed the oranges and reds, of course.
"This sun is so pretty... I like the sunset!" he mused to himself, sitting and watching. He had been here for a week already. A week of confusion, but a more or less good week nonetheless.
He began to think about what and where he had been before. His life with Muntz, meeting Carl, his adventure with him, Russel, and Kevin...
And the he began to feel sad. He realized he missed them more than he realized. After all, Carl was his master, wasn't he?
"...Oh, Master. Where are you?" he asked, frowning a little.
He stared at his hands for a moment. It was very strange, being in a body like this. Having fingers, thumbs, and other human qualities was a little difficult for him. But he was determined to do his best, because he wanted to help out everyone. Because Dug was very helpful.
Just then, a radroach scuttled by, grabbing Dug's attention away from the sunset and to it. "I am going to catch you!" he shouted, scampering after it. The radroach scuttled and flew, trying to get away from Dug.
Dug found all this very fun. The thrill of the chase, the wind and the rush... it all felt like a big game to him. Of course, the radroach didn't think it was a game, but then again, it wasn't really thinking, but simply acting on instinct.
After a minute or two of chasing, the radroach managed to fly up into a dead tree. Shaking his fist, Dug yelled, "Come back here, you bug!" He then promptly began to climb up the tree, determined to get the radroach. It was quite high up, but he knew he could get to it.
He was close to grabbing it, a mere foot away from it... when it flew into his face. With a yelp, he fell from the branch he was on, and tumbled out of the tree, landing on his butt. The radroach then flew away.
"Ow... I am hurting..." he mumbled, rubbing his butt in pain. He certainly did love the thrill of the chase and whatnot, but this part was embarrassing and painful.
