Does anyone else think it's insane that some parents don't want their daughters to have the HPV/cervical cancer vaccine because they don't want to have a sex talk with your 10 year old? Also, stupid woman on Oprah, your daughter wont think that they're free to have unprotected sex if you actually talk to them about the risks involved in having sex ( Read more... )

Many people choose not to use any vaccationations at all for a varity of reasons. Among those is that the FDA here in the US has a history of rushing new drugs onto the market place resulting in death.

I myself loath the goverment telling me I have to put this into my body or my child's.

Like any other vaccine it should be a well thought out choice for the parent. Would I do it? Hell yeah. Do I think that the excuse of 'well I don't want to give my daughter permission' is a stupid one? Yes again. Mostly because even if she does abstain until marriage and only has the one partner there is no gaurentee that he'll be negative.

The real issues here are so many parents don't want to have the sex talk with their child at all. By avoiding it and leaving it until they are 'older' a child absorbs sex on TV, in school and from friends beyond what a parent can control. Avoiding something will always make it worse in the long run. If more parents sit their children down, go over the nuts and bolts of sex and plainly go over their own moral views then continue to reinforce over the years it would go a long way to stemming the tide of teenage pregancy and STD's.
