They Might Be Giants: Podcast 32A! On first listen, full of intriguing sounds. Has the demo of Hotel Hell, a super early and not great TMBG song. Has an early version of Space Suit, very neat. Synthesized female voice is not as annoying as before; perhaps I become inured ( Read more... )

The flubbed into to Birdhouse is great. It cracked me up when I heard it on the XM show, and it still cracks me up. Especially since they sit around and specificly talk about it being a segue beforehand. (Like, "oh yeah, there's a segway right? Yeah, there's a segway. I just wanted to double check, so that I could totally mess it up when we got there.")

The concert I went to was segue-tastic (opening with Damn Good Times into Birdhouse into The Guitar into WDTSS with literally no space in between songs), which would seem to prove Linnell wrong. If they can pull that off, why no Asbury to Birdhouse?

I was figuring he was imitating the sound of his keyboard. That was the first thing that came to mind.

I was listening again with my eyes closed and kind of letting my mind provide the scene and, darned if I didn't see John Flansburgh tweaking John Linnell's ear! I think Flans was a little annoyed at Linnell for screwing up the segue even after they discussed it. And then Linnell is tootling around on the keyboard, talking to himself and Flans just has the need to do a little brotherly ear tweaking to get Linnell back down to planet "Play the Damn Song Already!". Ah, the theater of the mind. :)
