Food for Thought

Last night I dreamt we were on a deep space mission, and had arrived at an area where food sometimes became sentient. If it was in a field of strong thought and emotion, it would start thinking its own thoughts, having a sense of self.

This was extremely troublesome if you were trying to have a romantic dinner - the two diners are looking at each other longingly, their hearts afire, when suddenly the fettuccini alfredo becomes sentient. It's a mood-breaker.

It was disconcerting even if it didn't interrupt a romantic evening - at some point a bunch of us are drinking beer and eating pizza, and I guess got too raucous, because the cheese pizza woke up. I finally said, "excuse me," put a slice of pizza under a blanket, and after whispering comfortingly to it, bit into it. Very light, fluffy crust. You'd think that it would scream, but no, I never heard any of the newly-sentient provender say a thing. You just knew, though, that the alfredo was deep in thought.

spaceships, food, weirdness, nibbling, foods, dinners out, dreams, sci fi
