Who would pay for the lab time to insert a damn poem in to D. radiodurans? Really, that sounds like a fair number of man-hours, which, when translated into money, would be a fair amount of coin.
So.
The art, the performance is NOT the actual insertion of the poem, nor its replication by the bacterium. The art event was the release of the idea via the proposal and the public reaction to the idea.
It's totally post-modern performance art.
